Just saw two 69 phs documented TAs at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee. I didn't know about the auction until I drove by so I didn't have my camera. One sold for $63K and one for $85K. Both 4 ram air III 4-sp. and nicely restored, but not 100% correct. The cheaper of the two had the wrong engine paint. The nicer one had a few options added during a restoration in the 80's.

looks like a 70s color blue, and the radiator hose clamps are not the tower type to be a correct t/a .

Yeah, oddly enough, there were a handful of Pontiacs with the wrong blue on the engine. Not sure what's going on but we coudn't understand it either...

Yep the one that sold for $63K had the lighter blue engine color. The $85K one was correct, although I was mistaken. It didn't sell. There was a reserve on it for more than that.

I don't understand either how someone can spend a bunch of money on a restoration and not even get the engine painted the right color. Duh.

Wouter, I'm pretty sure that's the same one that sold for $63K. It had the in-dash tach, and no console.

Didn't all of the '69 Trans-Ams have the in dash tachs? I know I've never seen one with a hood tach.

My friend Dave was on TV from the Thurs night session. We stood right at the corner where the cars turned left after rolling across the block. We had a great time, it was relly cool watching the cars pull up on the block. Shockingly the cars that went through on Thurs we actually now where near as nice as they looked up on stage. The polishing and bright lights sure make so so cars look super!

The 1969 Trans Am package included power steering, power front disc brakes, and the power steering cooling line. All Trans Am's were built this way, but many restorations fail to include these items.

The 1969 Trans Am was not available with the hood tach.

It's interesting to see just how many "restored" Pontiacs end up having some of the obvious stuff like the engine color so wrong?
But on a High dollar car like a 69 TA? Wow...

Not defending but just postulating: If the engine was an SR replacement by a dealer in 1972 (when they switched back to the sky blue) could it not possibly be that color?

I ask because I do not know. I have a SR OHC block that has that color on it, originally, even though it was cast in 1969.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen one with a hood tach either, so you may be correct. These were the first two real TA's I've seen in person, so I don't really know.

69 TA did not have hood tachs. Some had no tachs at all. You had to order the stack guages to get the tach in the dash.....
