Installing new 5 leaf springs and urethane spring cushions. Had the spring indexed in the perch and was tightening the nuts on the shock mount plate evenly. The urethane cushion squeezed out between the perch and the shock plate. POW, broken shock mount plate.
Before I began tightening the shock plate, there was about 3/8" gap between the plate and the perch with the cushions and the spring all snugged up. The gap was large enough so that the lips of the lower cushion were not engaged in the perch prior to tightening the plate. I seem to have more "stuff" than will fit between the perch and the shock plate.
Off comes the urethane. Ordering rubber cushions to see if that will help. If that doesn't work I guess I'll try to remove a leaf from the springs.
Any suggestions? Has anyone removed a leaf from a multi-leaf spring?
Thanks.
Tom

If you are of a mind to get rid of the urethane pads, let me know. I'm working on a little project that I could use them on.

I am of a mind I'm calling Ames now to check the dimensions of the rubber style. My OEM pads look like the ones they have listed for the 1967 lower pads. I just replaced my body bushings w/ urethane also. Hoping I don't hate it. I somehow ended up w/ 3 sets of urethane spring pads. How many do you need, maybe I'll just send you my extra set. Tom

The 1967 had a mono leaf spring where the 68 had a multi,Which I am sure you know but if you ended up with a 67 it is a thicker pad also DON'T use a impact!!! tighten by hand in a oppisit (x) end pattern and watch the base if it starts to bend if it just starts your there. stop. also make sure the bumps on the pad are correct if they don't line up it will put a stress on them.Hope this helps
