I see Ames has them listed at $135 each. Not sure if they come with the spring. If not, it will add another $16 per side.

Just wondering where others have bought their hinges and if satisfied with the quality?

Thanks, Trevor

You have to watch out for the aftermarket ones. I have seen a few members here that were not very happy with them and they highly recommended going with the GM ones that are still available (but pricy)

I know Rick's Camaro's offers both kind.

I bought the repops from Classic, fit is fine, but "wrong" color (black not phosphate grey)...not sure if one was bad or not, but one had a rivet break after 7,8 yrs...20 k miles and lots of opening of the hood....so I replaced the broken one with another repop, (bought one for other side too just in case)...but if you dont mind changing them every 5-10 yrs, $39 is lots less than $135.

I had bought a pair of repops as well. I had them powder coated and they held up almost 8 years. I had just bought a brand new pair just before the car was hit and never did install them...

Are you looking to sell the ones you have?

Actually 8 years is not bad considering how many times we open our hoods! I'm sure back in "the year" they were opened for tune ups every 4-6 months!

The repro's I got are of the same gauge steel as the originals and work great...I think like anything else, the occasional squirt of oil on the pivot points will help them last and keep the holes from elongating.

I'm going to pick up the repos from Classic (with the 20% off coupon!).
They're out of stock on the springs, but I'll just get those through GM.
Thanks for the feedback.

after 6-8 months when your new springs start sagging, you know what to do.....get early 80s Volvo 240 inner hood hinge springs and 'fish them in' , inside the GM ones.

to save yourself the cost of the new springs , you can do that now.... wink

dont ask how I know....

I did this (thanks to Bjorn) and it works great. Took me about 5 minutes to find them at a u-pull it, cost a couple of bucks.
