Ok group, Christina has sent me a PM asking for help in selling off Terry's inventory so she can go up north to be with her family. I am sure we can all understand this as I am certain this is very difficuly for her.
Now, in saying this, I do not know what is available but I think we should all be very respectful given the circumstances and I don't beleive inadating Christina with wish lists would be very tactful either.
I will PM her back and ask if maybe I can call her later this week or when it's convienient for her and maybe get some idea as to what inventory there is. Or, maybe, if she would like, Tammy and I would be willing to drive down and help her inventory the parts etc.
Again, I think (as I am sure ALL of you do as well) that we need to handle this delicately and not come across as vultures so to speak. For me personally, I have no vested intrest in this and not looking to make a dime, I am only willing to help one of our own as he had helped so many on this site.
So hang in there, and I think maybe sticking with this thread would be the best way to handle any potential parts for sale etc. although I will clarify Christina's wishes when I speak with her.
Again, please be patient and let's not jump the gun on this and give Christina all the time she needs to deal with this situation. I will update this thread as more info becomes available...
For sure....if you can get a list together perhaps we can help any pricing research etc that needs to be done.. I wonder if another reseller might be interested in a bulk buy as well...
If their is any way possible for her to sell it off as a lot, I would definitely suggest she look at that option.
As many here know, it can be difficult to catalog, list, sell, pack and ship items like this. Terry filled a niche in the market by being able to look at a random part and tell you immediately what it is, what it should be worth and whether or not it is a rare part. For members of this board it was usually pay me what you think it is worth, but if you saw his website and ebay sales, he knew what a minimum fair price was.
I have not seen photos of the extent of the amount of cars and parts Terry had, but from conversations I am betting it is A LOT. It may be an overwhelming amount of work.
I do agree to let her take as much time as she needs. Whenever she is ready to move forward, as much assistance as possible will be given by the members of this board.
Please take your time if you can Christina.

He sold late 60s Firebird, Camaro and some GTO parts. His wife, Christina, is moving to Michigan in a week or so and will probably sell his vast collection of parts at pennies on the dollar.

well, you better make sure you get it fast then....evidently Christina has contacted a PY member , thats the "friend" mentioned abv...and after I mentioned her post from here ,this was the reply.

I was hoping to be able to help her avoid a pennies on the dollar scenario and was hoping to help her sell off the inventory at full market value. I guess it may be a bit much for her and she needs to be with family, this is understanding given the circustances...
I understand Christina needs to be with family and is looking to liquidate what she can as quickly as she can. I can definitely empathize with her situation.
This said, I truly hope she will not be taken advantage of. Knowing the caliber of folks on this forum, we would have ensured that any parts we bought received fair market value in return. I hope someone doesn't look at this as an opportunity to fleece someone who is currently in a very vulnerable state of mind.

I recently joined the PY site only due to the info in the forums for the LeMans. I have a story to share about an experience with PY but I will start a new thread for that...
She had also said this months payment for his storage hadn't been paid so she's not sure what the lot owner is going to do! She did sound like she wanted to unload it all not in little bit's! She also said to thank everyone for the donation that it will help pay for her move! Bill
if she wants to liquidate and move on, that doesn't make PY (or us) scumbags.. we may all actually qualify for scumbag status for our own separate reasons...
the most important thing to her is gone, so lets address her storage bill and keep time on her side... and the decisions in her hands..
I don't care if she wants to liquidate it's just the attitude and "pennies on the dollar!!!!!!" statements raising a big flag like "she doesn't know what she's selling so let's cash in guys!!!!!!" The guy just died, have some respect for him, his wife and family cause if you don't some else will sure as hell cash in on your stuff when you get divorced or die as your wife sells your car for $1.... Just my opinion of the whole situation be it wrong, right or indifferent.
I agree with Jeremy completely. I'm sure there are a ton of parts that I could get for my car. But that is the last thing on my mind. I hope things can be worked out to where fair value is given for most of the parts.
Without reading the thread at PY, attitude sounds just like Barry Martin of Sonic Motors fame.
Personally, I would unload all the stuff in lots. 1/3 of all the carbs listed in seperate auctions. Each car sold seperate and no parting out. This way, by auctioning on Epay, fair is fair. Let everyone know ahead of time (a month) on PY, here, CP..etc what is going up for auction and let the chips fall where they may. Parts are down 20-40% from a few years ago except for the rarer stuff.
I say alleviate this by auctions. Done deal and nobody has any bad blood.
Just my uneducated opinion.

I agree, but that will need a list done and someone to handle it. No sense getting in to any PY bashing, tactless individuals some of them are or not (we have had one or two as well).
I do agree tho my one day experience, of which I was completely harrassed in the PY lounge for responding to some ignorant Ahole who was putting down Blacks, Jews, and then Canadians, to the point of demonstrating the complete ignorance of PY individuals, I have never gone back nor will I ever.
I like Tom's idea as well. It would be fair to all and keep the vulture mentality down a bit.
It would require someone to go and spend a couple of days worth of time to sort and catalog the items into usable lots though. I would think that person should be paid for their time or given a % of the auction sale to keep everything on the up and up.
I guess the ultimate question would be who could do it and would Christina agree to the general idea.
My thoughts on the PY mentality right now is not all that positive so I will keep my thoughts to a minimum. Terry lived and breathed the best side of Pontiac culture and to see that kind of response is just sad.

After all this time, I am still just a "lurker" at PY. I quickly saw there was no need for me to ever become a registered member.

took awhile to get used to the CH, but if you have thick skin you can stay in there...nobody has bugged me to the point I respond in bad language. (yet...lol)

Kind of sounds like she just wants to cut and run. Get out from all of it. Can't say I blame her. It's not like she was the firebird fanatic. If she's like my wife one rusty old part looks the same as any other. Probably will just take what she can get for all of it and be done with it. Kinda like an estate sale. Doesn't sound like she wants to stick around long enough to sell it piece by piece. Somebody may end up with a good deal.

s'okay, I'll just launch one of those west coast totem pole missiles at Seth!
Well, my offer still stands if Christina wants help. I can be there in four hours, I could help her catalog everything, put pricing to it etc. but, if she just wants to sell it all to one person, it is understandable as it could be overwhelming to someone in her situation.
I have a friend who would and could buy the entire inventory, but I didn't want to even suggest that as I did not want to sound as though it would be taking advantage of the situation etc.
Depending on how much is there, someone can make off real well by buying off the entire lot as one. The time it takes researching, pictures, listing, shipping is where the money is at.
Package deals are GREAT for the buyer, not the seller/inheritor unless someone helps out and recieves a percentage of the take.
I would estimate based on how much I believe he has that 30-40 cents on the dollar on the used and maybe 70 cents on the dollar for new would be about right for a package deal. She could do alot better holding onto, agreeing on paying someone to catalog, take pics, list all those parts and be done with. I believe 15% is fair (inc. packaging and auction fees), but thats up to them.
None of my business, but have an idea what the market is like as both buyer and seller.

Didn't Terry offer some new parts also? Makes me wonder if he had an outstanding balance with any suppliers. They don't take pennies on the dollar. Plus I would think she would be looking to sell his property(if he owned it) if she's moving back north. Probably doesn't want to wait forever to have the junk cleared out. She aint going to sell it with the yard looking like that. How long would that take?
Has anybody considered contacting other large Pontiac-related used parts places like Frank's (in CA) to see if they would be interested in the entire lot?

I surmise all this depends on how fast she wants it moved and whether or not getting the fair price is worth waiting on a time schedule.
By no means am I inferring a person helping deserves a cut, but if offered, I would be inclined to accept something for my time and effort under any circumstance.
I didn't want to sound like a monger insinuating about anyone or anything. Just a relative "what if".
If someone offered me 4k for a potential 15k worth of stuff that could have been auctioned off, the decision would be theirs to get this done and over with or to draw it out and list on auction. To me, 11k profit minus a 1 to 1.5k for the person who helps someone recieve an 10k profit is not a bad deal for either party.
I guess this is the business end of me coming out. I just hate for Terry to lose anything for all his work and effort.

Bjorn, I missed the post until today, sorry.
I have no idea who Terry was, or what he might have had in parts.
If you can find the time, one of my best friends might be interested in taking everything in a package deal.
Jimmy (JK) Wright, has owned and restored 4 69 TA’s and a lot of the aftermarket parts available for 69 TA’s came from molds made from his parts. Year one, VFN, Glasstek all used his parts to make their molds, and Year one used his ram air pans and screens to copy from, years ago. He’s retired now, and helps out a friend that owns Camaro Central, and they sell some bird stuff too.
He knows more about 69’s than anyone, but plays dumb to stay out of pissing matches.
The best thing in my opinion would be to find someone to pass the torch onto. Noone can ever replace Terry, he was one of a kind, but atleast the legend could live on.
