New member here and my first post. I searched for this answer, and only found 1 post that said the gap should be .40 Is this the gap that others have found to work the "best", or do I need to experiment to determine what gap works best for my motor ? ( The car is a 67 400 convertible, original motor has just been rebuilt, .030 over with a mild cam ) Thanks for any help/opinions you can offer, Tom
WITH YOUR HELP !, trying to put back together a factory 1967 convertible 400/TH400, softray glass, pw, ps, pb, ac, console, clock, safeguard speedo, remote and visor mirror(s), hood and trunk lamps, and custom trim options.(Rally II rims and hood tach had been added). THANK YOU ALL for any help, opinions, and/or advice. I'M GONNA NEED IT !
"What should I gap the spark plugs to? The Ignitor has no set specification in which the spark plugs should be gaped at. Every engine responds differently to spark plug setting. In most cases increasing the factory recommended gap by .005 improves the engine performance."
The guys in our group who all have 400s in their cars and also use a Pertronix or equavalent set their plugs at .050 and they all claim that is dead on etc....

.050 was recommended to me too.
There's 2 other components that need to be identified to really answer this. For me anyway.
Plugs - Good plugs can handle increased gap and will change my recommendation Wires - Good wires can handle more voltage, will definately change my recommendation
I believe I have the "original" Ignitor conversion(not the Ignitor II,Flame-Thrower,etc.), Flame-Thrower 40,000 volt coil, Flame-Thrower 7 mm plug wires, and Champion copper plugs. I'd like to get the most out of the higher voltage, would prefer more mpg over hp. Knowing this, would you recommend .050 ?

I would at least try it. Supposedly you gain both with a wider gap. The only thing that might hold you back would be the 7mm wires. I know they typically recommend 8mm or 9mm but I would still try and see how the car runs at .050
Hey, I never thought about that... I have a factory dist. that has been switched out to a mallory infared trigger. It has a accel super coil, 8.8 accel wires, and R45S plugs. Would it benifit me to widen the gap?
