It's that tacky Volo Auto Museum again. At least they admit it's a clone - probablly because it was so badly done:

Bad '67 400 Clone

Note the location of the 400 on the trunk lid, and a complete lack of the "litle things" like Hockey Sticks and front air baffles (bumper to radiator filler panels).

The white metal dashboard and door tops are both wrong AND ugly, while the burlwood center console is just incorrect.

I don't think I have ever seen a white dash before.

Didn't even white interiors come with black dashes?

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

And I forgot about the front bumper emblem.

Yes, black dashes with Parchment (white) interiors. Red dashes and door tops with red interiors.

I admit I've been debating a white interior.. Colorados looks great against that vibrant orange..

I'm thinking blue carpet and dash, with white seats, door tops & panels.. but I'm not there yet

Johnny - go for it. I've been thinking the same thing for both my 'verts; one in Red & the other in Blue, with white (Pearl or Parchment) seats and door panels with body color dash, carpet, console and (in the case of the 67) upper doors. I'd like to see how yours comes out first, though. wink

Uh-Oh, looks like another thread hi-jack. Sorry Folks!

Thanks for the vote.. blue seat belts will look nice too (or ghetto?) and I may skip the burlwood on the console and instead stain a veneer to match the steering wheel..

I cringe every time I see the flat black intakes on the hood. That was the only thing Jim Wangers busted my stones about when we seen him up in MI last summer for the Woodward Dream Cruise. He told me the one day we were hanging out with him for a while, he said "ok, now I have to ask, what is the deal with the black intakes on the hood? Now don't this wrong, but you do realize they should be the same color as the car, right"? LOL

If I could have found a spray can of Palladium Silver that very day, I would have painted them that night right there in the motel room, knowing I would see him again the following day. Just before the Bird was hit I had talked to our painter friend about doing some paint work and that was one of the things that was discussed! LOL

Funny thing is, I always liked the looks of the flat black intakes especially on the silver, but after he pointed them out, I hated it! The one thing I have NEVER liked is when people paint the hood tachs flat black (no offence if anyone has done so). That's why having the one on the LeMans in grey primer is driving me nuts!

All volo cars are on consignment from private owners. The cars they typically have at Volo are usually high dollar restorations. They must be lowering their standards.

fwiw Earlybird, I liked your black intakes.. mine are gloss black with sparkles in them, functional and it matches the engine bay,,

but I really want to have them chromed... or a repro set chromed

I painted mine body color with blacked out "open" areas then put a black pinstripe up the sides and over the top. To each his own.

What's up with the long throw auto shift handle.

I have to admit, right or wrong, I really like the scoops in black.

Well, the interior colors are down right horrible... The white dash looks so out of place... Interior looks like it had been tooken from 3 cars. Wouldn't be suprised if the front seats don't match the back.

My scoops are chrmed, came with the hod when I bought it....Ithink I have concluded my hood (which came from Canada) once belonged to a "Commance" Bird, so I left them chromed after I re painted the hood Red (it was blue , but had gold under the blue)....then I painted the flat area flat black to 'emulate' open.....you really cant tell the difference...and I just didnt want to get water in if driving in rain as I have the insulated hood...worried about rust in crevices.

I'm not sure if this is the Volo Museum. The ad states the car is located in Southern Wisconsin, and the Volo Museum is in Illinois.

I like the flat black scoops too, but as others stated, that seems to be the first thing people feel they need to point out that is "wrong" on your car. Back when these cars were new, many people had a dealership or a local painter black out a tail panel or black out the hood scoops. This trend was very popular, and manufacturers began offering blacked out trim from the factory. The Mach 1 rear window louvers, blacked out hood on a 70 AMX, blacked out hood on a Super Bee, or the AAR Cuda, or the blacked out tail panel on the Camaro SS, etc.

I like the blacked out scoops because it sets off the "400" die cast emblems on the Firebird hood, but many purists I know cringe when they see this.

Heck, it's your car, do what ya like. smile

I duplicated the hood stripes that were used on the 1969 Firebird 455 Engineering Car.
