Hi, my car was running fine and I shut it off after only a minute of running (adjusting idle screws), went to start-nada, no juice....no lights, nothing. I get 12 volts at the main big red wire to the starter but no power at ignition switch. Is there a fusible link between the starter and the firewall? The wires are covered so I can't see them. Thanks, Jason
Check for 12 volts at the RED wires at the horn relay. One of them comes from the battery, the other has a fusible link. From there it goes to the rest of the car. See if there is power at both ends of the link.
If you have power there, get back to us with a power reading at the junction block behind the battery. That's a weak link there because of corrosion issues.
I have a attached my drawing of the 69 Camaro Power Distribution wiring diagram. The wire colors are usually different, but this should help you visualize how your 68 is wired.
O.K. here is what I have so far....remember, I have had this over a year and it ran perfect until last Thursday so it has been wired like this for a while.
No horn relay.
The wire on the "s" terminal goes directly to the ignition switch (not fusible link just regular wire)
the big purple wire on the engine side of the fuse box-cut off at about 2 inches
Starter bench tests fine
Here is the kicker- the power cable to the starter-the huge red wire-does not work. It "looks" o.k. but there is 12 volts on one end, 0 on the other....gremlins
So, should I run power to the big purple wire, if so can I run it right from the battery?
