While replacing the brake/tail and back up light sockets I noticed two wires coming out of the harness just after it enters the trunk on the drivers side just behind the rear seat. There is a connector about six inches from where it exits the harness and two wires go from there up the drivers side and seen to go up under the sail panel behind the left rear window. I think [hard to tell] they are white and black. Anyone have any idea what they would be for? Does the courtesy light in the headliner route that way?
68 coupe,
Thanks, Al

Yes, and the dome light. I believe the dome light wires are orange and white.

Thanks, I looked again and they could be orange and white. I don't have a dome light but the headliner was replaced at some time and it could have been left off. Would all coupes have something to screw a dome light to? I don't want to cut a hole in the headliner to snake the wires over and not have something to screw the light base to.

Black/white should be for the door jamb switch. But they are not that far back on the harness.

Like in this photo?

Not really. I crawled into the trunk to take a look, that's not easy with six fused vertebrae in ones back, the wires are orange or red and the other dark yellow or light tan. The wireloom comes from the back seat area and runs above the wheel-well about as far back as the top of the shock bolt where the two wires come out. The loom then continues back to the left quarter marker light and the wires start to come out for all the rest of the lights.
I have Lights under the dash that come on when the door jam switch closes but no dome light. The car is in no way original and seems to have parts from all three years in it but the wireloom coming back to the rear lights looks like it belongs and is in the old wraping untill it gets to the side marker.
If I could figure out how to post a pic I would but I don't have a website to pull one from.

You don't need a website. Upload it to photobucket.com and post the link.

It does not sound like it is not the right harness to me. There is not a red wire back there...

The wire comes out just about where the bracket that holds the deck lid springs are. I see the cocktail shakers you must have a convertible so you wouldn't have the dome light.

In 1967, Camaro's had rear doom lights in the sail panels.

I installed in my 68. Everything was there to mount them & wire I believe.

Not stock but look real cool!

Yes, the trunk light is a orange wire that grounds on the trunk.

Thanks for the pics, the sail panel lights do look good.
I thought the deluxe Firebird interior in 67 or 68 also had the sail panel lights

I stand corrected...CI catalog states it's a 67 Deluxe interior option.

The screws that hold the dome light base just screw into the ribs under the roof panel? Is there a flat spot for the screw holes?
Thanks.

Thanks for the schematic and to whomever put up 'The First Gen Site'. They are the dome wires and they are both hot as the white wire is downstream from the dash courtesy lights and will go to ground at the door switches or light switch.
Now I just need a dome light assembly.
