I'm wondering if anyone has run into the same issues I'm having. I have Doug's (Pertronix) headers on the engine and have a MagnaFlow system ready to be installed. There seems to be 2 problems I'm having.
First, the MagnaFlow extension pipes out of the X-pipe, where they meets the headers... with them parallel to the ground/car body they are, centre-to-centre ~2" narrower than the headers.
Second, the extension pipes from the x-pipe to the headers need to dip below the crossmember, by roughly an inch to clear it, and then raise up again to meet the headers.
I'm going to have to get a new pair of pipes made, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I though it was going to be nice easy install. Ah well, nothing else has been thus far so I should've know better
My engine is a 326, with the 2-speed super turbine trans. I put on a new poly trans mount (Energy) which I had read about being taller than the original... so figured if the trans could drop a bit, the headers would angle down too, possible solving a problem. But... the new Energy poly mount is less than 1mm taller than the original rubber.
I also thought maybe I have the wrong engine mounts (too tall again) - I bought them as 400 mounts, but I think they're all the same, and the headers are good for use on 326-455 engines.
The only other thing I can think of is the crossmember... If the humps were bigger then the pipes would fit under it, like the stock pipes. So... maybe the headers weren't designed with the 2spd crossmember in mind? Same with the MagnaFlow exhaust (2.5" dia).
