I recently restored my 67 400 conv. back to its original color code " O ". After seeing a posting of a member on this site who had a photo of his 67 conv same color in a carshow with a plaque next to it stating there were less than 40 painted to that code.. I'm trying to find where that info came from if anyone knows that poster "Gary Plowman" or knows the breakdown of that info I would greatly appreciate it....

I wonder if that number is for all 67's or just 400's. I think Gary's car was a 326.
My 400 conv is originaly a Coronado gold car.

There are a ton more coronado golds out there than 40 something.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I've search high and low on this one... No way to know for sure unless some went through every PHS and tallied the sales code 867-97904. But here's what I've been told by a former Pontiac dealership owner and first gen collector... Less than 5% were special order colors.
This was because that back then people still ordered their cars and that included checking the box for color. The special order colors did not make the normal color pallet in the brochures so people were less likely to choose a color that they did not see.
If 5% is a fair number for special order colors then by doing the math, the number of "O" cars is less than 589. I'd say much less than that due to the fact that Coronado gold was only offered as a spring '67 option out of the 7 special order colors.
Again, no way to know for sure, but that's my SWAG...

Talked to Jim Mattison about Coronado gold...AKA 65 GTO Tiger Gold. He was rather speculative about the numbers, but it is safe to say production is under 1000.
I inquired as I owned a numbers matching 400 auto and had only seen 2 others till that point.

I inquired some time ago regarding numbers by color. I was advised that no production stats exist. So, you just gotta kinda interpolate.

I've seen many Coronado Gold birds over the years at car shows. Definately one of my favs for sure. If I ever owned another bird, it would be a toss up between Coronado Gold and Mayfair Maize. Love em both!

Coronado Gold, April Gold and Autumn Bronze I really like. I might go with one of those (even if April Gold is wrong for the year), if I repaint, or I may keep it's current color (it was painted a different color than original before I bought it). I checked once what it came as and didn't care for it at all. I forget what it was (I think I purposely erased it from memory). No matter what, it won't be going back to original color as long as I own it.

I want to mention that whenever I have both my 'birds at a car show, there is a three to one or four to one ratio of people looking at my Coronado Gold over the Red.
I think people are tired of red, and the gold on gold is more interesting. Personally, I love the color. When I bought the car, it had been re-painted at one time the incorrect Signet Gold. Now there was an ugly color. Coronado is SO much nicer!

I went back through some emails from a few years back and came across one from Gary Plowman about Coronado Gold.
"Mike, coronado gold was a spring color in 67. It was a special paint as all the spring colors in 67. They painted so many cars of each color and sent them out throughout the country to see what color combination would sell for 68. Coronado was one that did not make production for 68 so very few were made. Mathematically speaking I would say there were only around 70 total conv. made. I know of at least 6 or seven cars with that color and only maybe four that are conv. so the color code O on the tag makes it unique.

Also interesting, is there are currently 12 coronado gold cars in the online car show. This does not account for any cars that may have started out as gold but now changed and/or not noted as the original color.

I would say there were only around 70 total conv. made. Mike I guess I better keep mine! Maybe it's just because I have one, but there sure seems to be a lot of them around to me. You know how you always notice other cars and colors when that's what you have?

With 70 convertibles made, that would mean 20-30 would remain at best with attrition. I find it hard to believe 10% of those are discussing it on the same thread.

I just purchased a 67 firebird convertible factory 400 4 speed / O paint code car. I would appreciate any and all information. Is this a rare car? It is painted white now. Is it worth painting Coronado Gold?

I have a 67 firebird 400 in Coronado gold. The firewall tag paint color should read O but it does not. It reads O-O. What does this mean?
