Do I reinstall the insulation/sound deadener that was attached to the body structure behind the back before I put up the divider or leave it off?

Behind my std fixed seat, glued to the bracing structure, was the original padding with oiled cardboard covering(like the sound deadener that is stuck to the floor pan under the seats). I was just wondering if I should glue it back on before I installed the new divider?

Ahh, no, that does not get used with a fold down seat. Just the cardboard divider which rests in the gutter along the bottom...

Total "cool factor". Looks awesome! I don't know why, but those seats are just friggen cool! That was the first thing we used to do when we'd get to a show/cruise night, lay the back seat down! LOL People loved it...

So has it been confirmed that switching seats from standard to deluxe requires different rear side panels? Or are standard and deluxe rear seats the same width? My '68 coupe has standard, and I want to put my '68 deluxe fold-down in there.

I can give you exact measurements of mine for you if you like. I have the fold down option as well.

Is your's a standard seat? (your earlier pictures are gone from the thread) If so, please measure between the sides at the frontmost top. (kind of in front of the ash trays) Thanks!

My interior is deluxe. My sides are out of the car. Do you want the measurement when they are installed (just woke up...still a little doppy)?

Not needed. I have a deluxe fold down seat (in storage) I wanted to know the width difference compared to a standard back seat. SO if someone has a standard with fold-down, I would be interested in those dimensions.

Your seat should go right in. The only difference I've heard of is something about the some camaros didn't have arm rests and some did. Might have been a vert/coupe thing. Even then the only diff would be the bottom width. I believe all birds were the same though.
This one was out of a maro vert w/std int but I didn't use the bottom since mine was still perfect.

I do know that the fold down portion is the same for coupe and conv. cars. It seems to me it's the seat bottom that is narrower for the conv. cars. This would be true regardless of the fold down option or not as the seat bottom is not any different from a fold down or a standard seat if that makes any sense...

The Camaro seats could be different. IIRC, the standard Camaro interior didn't have rear arm rests. The seat bottom would be longer in that case. I'm not sure which years this covers. Any Camaro receiving a foldown rear seat would have also had arm rests installed. I'm not sure about the difference in widths between the convertible and coupe. I wish I would have measured when I had both seats.

I'll have to pay more attention to the back seat in a maro next time I go to a show and there are two hundred of them to look at. I barely even look at them now unless there is really something special about it.
I di look at a 67 last sunday and was surprised to see a fold down back seat in it. And yes the 67s used that $30 plastic latch trim piece on both sides. Yikes!! Kind of makes up for the price difference in latches between the 7s and the 8-9s.

I've measured fold downs in FGF and Camaros in both, coupes and verts, they are all the same in all four cars. It's the seat bottoms that are different...

So Joe, are you saying that the bottom standard and bottom deluxe are different? (for a coupe) Can you elaborate on the differences? Which is narrower?

If memory serves me right, the coupe vs. vert. are the two that are differnt (seat bottom). The verts seat bottom is narrower but just a bit. I have pics somewhere of each seat with a tape measure laying across them. I don't beleive the standard vs. deluxe int. made a difference. Let me see if I can find the pics, may take me some time as my home PC took a dump, however, the hard drive is still accessable to some degreee...

Firebird backs and bottom are all the same. Vert/coupe. All had armrests.

Maro backs are all the same. Maro bottoms are the only thing in question. I don't even know if maros had deluxe int. They might have all been std covers. I have both bird bottom and vert maro bottom in the basement so I can check. The guy screwed me out of the sidepanels so I don't know what they looked like(armrests or not).

The finished product. What a waste of time and energy(and money). But very cool. Probably just added about 20 extra pounds to the car.

Looks great! Next time you get beat at the track you can always say to yourself: "yah but does he have a rear fold down seat"!

To Gus68, this is my first post on this site so I hope I am doing this right. I recently purchased a fold down rear seat and will be installing is in my '68 when we are finished with the exterior. I have a question about the brackets which the seat hinges hook to which is the same as asked earlier in this thread I quote: Hey Gus, when you install the seat into the car, do the hinges sit flat against the floor brackets or do you have to tighten the nuts to suck it down into place? The aftermarket plates that I just got don't have a deep enough hump for the nub to fit in and allow the hinge to lay all the way down. It didn't come with a stud either so I'll have to work them a bit anyway. You posted some photos to answer the question but they are not accessable. Would you post the photos again if you still have them? Also, I need any measurements of where the brackets go. Any and all help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thanks they help. Is the top of the bracket (the part with the bolt) welded to the floor as well or is it loose?

Quick question for those of you who converted from a regular rear seat to a fold down rear seat. What did you do about the three metal hooks that retain the regular seat back. Did you grind them off? Carefully drill out the spot welds? Or just bend them out of the way? Thanks.

In the early 80s when I installed the fold down seat I bent them out of the way. However I don't think I would recommend this as they were still somewhat in the way. I would set it up just like factory... original bumpers etc.

I removed them and ground the area flush. There have been some members on this site looking to buy those hooks too as they are not repopped.

I removed mine. Can't remember how I actually did it but I have them in a can around here somewhere. If you left them on they would be obvious when you folded the seat down. I haven't had my seat up since I installed the fold down. I figure with all the trouble to put it in I want everybody to know it's there. Besides I have to take the cross bar off the roll bar to put it up cause it's in the way. Too much trouble. Nobody's sitting back there anyway.
