hello, does anyone know why the 69' bird automatic console, appears to have had two options, either the round type handle, or the tee style. were there two options ? were they standard and deluxe ? thanks

Not 100 percent sure, but believe 69 were all round wooden knobs. 67 and 68 would have been t styles.

thanks, thats what mine is (sim wood knob with bird logo). i was just wondering because sometimes i see a 69' bird with the t-handle (guess that was taken from a 67 or 68).

It depends on which transmission the 69 has. A 1969 with the 2-speed auto should have the T-handle (same style as were used on 1967-68 Firebirds, I think).
A 1969 with TH350 or TH400 should have the round simulated wood knob. The 1969 TH350/TH400 Firebirds also have "Rally sports speed shift", where you manually can shift one step at a time by holding the lever to the right.
Sorry if my english isn't perfect, but I think you would have even more difficulty understanding me if I wrote in my native language.

I have read some of your posts earlier, and I thought your name looked swedish. I live in Linköping (which is about 125 miles south of Stockholm, if anyone else wonders). I have recently bought a 1969 Firebird 400 from the USA, and is waiting for it to be delivered to Sweden. I'm not new to the old car hobby, but this is my first Pontiac. /Ronnie

There is/was? a guy in Linköping with a blue TP21 Sugga, I talked to a bit when I had mine here in the states... ok, you dont even have your FB yet...bet its hard to wait! there are a couple of other Swedes (living in Sweden)on here too,you may eventually meet up with them... welcome aboard!
