Couple of you have asked me recently about my military travels over the years...here is a great example of how bad it was in Bosnia, 1996. Man, what a friggin' mess. Not too much of an enemy challenge or threat, just a really trashed out country thanks to the Serb aggression. http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss328/alvey_john/johnalvey-sarajevo-bosnia-1996-6.jpg

Take away the sandbags and add a structurally integrated 1960's shool bus and you're in downtown Moncure NC.
BUT we also have a Post Office, a McMansion, an RV park, an Elementary school, 3 large churches and a trailer park. We have 2 conveneince stores with a diner and a bucher shop, an ABC store, and a boat ramp.
And no bombs.
Thanks Nash

When I worked for Circuit City back in the day, I used to travel the entire country for them opening new stores. THE worst place I have ever been was Jersey City! Holy cow man, now that was a dump if there ever was one. To me, that is worse than Compton, CA. I drove through Compton one Friday night on a dare of all things. As bad as it was, nothing to Jersey, City IMO!

kinda looks like St Louis did when I was there in early 83....I kept telling my friends it reminded me of Germany in 57.....so this picture also looks like a pic right after WWII, but in color!

On a more "serious" note, my wife's friend is from Serjevo (sp?). She is Muslim and her husband is Christian. They moved to the US after that era (both are citizens now, as is their son). They love the USA for standing up to the Serbs, though we (USA) were really defending Muslims from so-called Christians (fascists, in reality).
She views Bill Clinton as a great man. On the "other side", she hates Hillary for claiming to have been "under fire" when she visited Bosnia. Edina tells stories of literally dodging bullets just to get to the grocery for milk for her son.
I salute all those American soldiers, sailors and airmen that went there and did what was right. Sometimes, moral righteousness must overcome politics and greed. We did that there!

That home in Boznia looks like a quaint fixer-upper! Some people pay big bucks for that faux distressed stucco brick look!

Mr P-body, say hello to Edina from me please, and tell her I was there in Sarajevo and the surrounding countryside from summer 1996 to spring 1997. If she remembers US helicopters flying overhead, I was probably in one of them. Long rotation.
PS - Tell her she is wrong about Bill, and right about Hillary.....

I'll tell her, but she won't buy it. She feels like she, her husband and son, would all be dead today if it weren't for Mr. Clinton taking action.
I'll leave it at that.

Clintons war....It seems thought that anyone affected in a war by being in the contry we help, will like the president of that time..forgetting that its Congress that declares war....Many Iraquis are happy about Bush too, ans are many Kuwaitis of Bush the elder....politics aside....same goes for the French...the "older generation ,affetcted by WWII love Americans , the younger not so.
