Hi,
has anyone used the VHT SP-122 Pontiac Blue engine paint on their engine block? Is it close to the correct 1967 Pontiac engine color?

Thanks,
Otto

That's not thr correct blue. You want Pontiac Metallic Blue
Brand: VHT Spray Paints Plus, Mfr Part#: SP142

But they do not make VHT SP142 anymore.

EarlyBird really likes Hirsh Hirsh

You will want Engine primer (heat treated), base coat and the clear coat.

If you are looking for accuracy, the Hirsh pait is by FAR the closest to original. If you don't need and or care if it's correct the others all look nice...

whatever you use, spray really thin close the exh ports..thinner is better , less thickness, less heat, but it gets brown anyway after a few 1000 miles

LOL I've come to realize that with the use of a $10 air brush from Harbor Freight and a quart can of Hirsh paint and 10 mins of you time once a month, your motor can look flawless EVERY day!

Works like a charm! At every show and or cruise night people who know our car always ask "how the hell do you keep this engine so nice"? Knowing that we have put 14k miles on the car in one year now, people can't understand how the engine always looks so nice!

On my Bird in my sig pic? If so, they were 225/70/15 I had just gone from the original 14" Rally II's to the 15". They did rub a little bit, should have gone with 215/70/15 looking back.

On my LeMans, I have 225/70/14 on original Rally I's. They are red lines from Diamondback, Cooper brand...

Trust me, that bothered me! But I must admit, the car rode, drove and handled MUCH MUCH better on the 15's. However, our LeMans seems fine with the 14's. Maybe because the Bird being a smaller car etc. I don't know...

Early bird.

did you use the bomb can or did you mix the paint with hardner? I bought a couple spray cans and now I wish I would have got a quart so I could mix in some hardner.

Can't say for sure as I have not used the Hirsh brand spray can. Plus I wanted the quart can because it's so nice and easy to fill a small bottle for the air brush, hit the entire engine with a fresh coat and bang, it looks brand new! The spray cans that I have used in the past make a mess under the hood and over-spray everywhere! You don't get any of that with an airbrush. You can pinpoint the paint like you are using a magic marker...

Hello Earlybird,

How far will a quart of Hirsch engine paint go I have 2 engines to paint and if they ship to Canada that's what I will use.

I cant find Duplicolor DE1616 here even the store that deal with duplicolor cant get it but I sure as heck can find it on Amazon .ca for $47.99 a rattle can same on Ebay. Its like a conspiracy . wonder if they told retailers not to sell certain colors so that you have to buy off of amazon or eBay @ over 3 time the price
