Maybe I'm just slow or stupid, but I read through all the FAQ on rear seat removal help and still can't see the screw/bolt I need to unscrew to take the rear seat back out to install rear lap belts - I even think I can feel the seat bolt heads.
I pressed in the bottom of the rear seat back and lifted and the back came up about 2" off the seat - should it have lifter higher? I see the two heave gauge wires and can feel what feels like a hex head between them below the lip of the rear of the seat. Is that what I have to unscrew?
I paid Heartbeat City $435 for a set of re-webbed original black plastic GM belts - changed the front ones out OK, just can't get into the back yet where I have no belts at all.
It can be tough, but you need to push in at the very bottom of the seat bottom, one side at a time and then lift while keeping the pressure on. There are 2 brackets that the heavy seat frame wire sits in on either side. The seat back can stay in place for seat belt replacement.
Am I trying to remove the seat back or the seat itself? Am I pushing on the seat back or the seat bottom? Am I lifiting the seat back? I'll try and try again - thanks. I guess I'll know when I've succeeded.
After reading all the posts in this thread so far, I'm confused which part of the seat you are trying to remove. You must first remove the bottom part of the seat. (the part you actually sit on) Yes, you must push the front facing portion about eight inches from each end while pushing upwards to unhook. After you unhook both sides, the entire bottom part will lift out. Then the back part of the seat has two bolts at the bottom that need to be removed and then you can lift upward. But you shouldn't need to remove the pack part to change seatbelts. Hope this helps.

This is VERY helpful - sorry, I'm brain dead. I was trying to remove the seat back first. I'll push on on the front of the "seat" and lift - hopefully this will work and I can expose the seat belt bolts.
Once you get the seat out, you'll see the way the hooks latch onto the seat bottom support, so the following time, it should be easier to remove. However, Ive seen those frame supports get bent and the seat bottom almost folds in the middle because of it. Then its hard to get the seat out..granted..if the seat is junk, it wont matter as youre better off putting in a better seat afterwards. But pushing down and back while lifting up (yeah, its backasswards), should unhook the seat frame support.
I got home from work early today and had the back seat out in 3 minuets - it took me longer to uncover the car. Thanks for all the help. I would have screwed with it for hours without the help.
The car I have is very solid - a real desert car - no rust anywhere. I found a linoleum like material under the seat bonded to the metal with the springs melted into it. The seat springs were covered with burlap and then padding and new vinyl. The old seat belt bolts and brackets (less belts) were intact and the bolts backed right out, a bit grimy, but smooth. I installed the new belts and was done in about a 1/2 hour.

Especially when it's still lit. You'd be amazed how fast those seats can come out!
