Contemplating on what rims to get for my 68, leaning towards TT 1 D series...

Any thoughts on the best looking 15" rims? Going for the "classically badass" look.

Classically badass... 15" Rally II's. I do love the TT2's also.

Rally IIs. IMHO, nothing looks better.

We bought a set of cragar ss rims and BFG belted TA's for our car. I like the look but also love the Rally II's. The tires on the cragars rub so the Rally II's are going back on this weekend.

Rally II's nicely detailed...perfection!

I like the Rally IIs as well, but I was hoping to go for a more beefy look... I find them just a little too narrow for the look i want to achieve...

They repop the rallyII wheels. Summit or jegs carry them. If you like beefy wheels but like the styling of the rallys. Gives you all kinds of options with tire sizes then. The billet rallyII wheels offered by year one look different but look nice on the car. Nice to see options for pontiacs.... Twenty years ago I remember buying chebby camaro parts trying to make them fit on my bird because I couldn't find bird parts. Joe

i had the rally's with red walls on my mariner turquose 67. looked nice, but seemed like a granny car. i went to 15" chrome torque thrusters with mickey thompson s/t tire. it doesnt look like a granny car anymore!

I have 15 X 8 Rally II's with 245/60/15 BFG's on the rear that look Bad azz. fills the wheel well up and don't rub.

Very nice Boater Bill! Mine is the same setup, just with redline 245's... and the picture I posted above doesn't show nearly as well as yours.

Badass Bill! That should be your handle! That may be the best spec combo (in my opinion) for the rally2s... What are your front specs? Got any more pics? What about quick68bird, any pics? I'm assuming that's a handle as well...

The fronts are 14x7 Rally II's with 235/60/14.

a couple of pics from a car show write up I did over at PY.

I have seen Quick68bird's photobucket and his is such high quality fit and finish it is amazing. The fact our two cars look so similar, I am using his as an example.

Badass Bill, I like it! I wish my ride height was as yours. Your car looks killer. Maybe one day my rear springs will settle down.

Mine are 81 WS6 TA springs that I pulled from a crunched TA back in 89. Don't wait 30 years for yours to settle.

I am still blown away at how similar our cars look BTW. I thought for years I was the only one to not use trim rings on Rally II's. When I showed the wife and kids your photobucket they though I snuck some pics of our car on your page. lol

15" Cragars SS! Look for them at swap meets and craigslist. I found mine at Good Guys in Pleasanton CA. 100 bucks with BFG T/A's that still had 5/32 of an inch. They are not perfect but good for a daily driver. Maybe you'll have such luck at a swap meet.

Year One makes some killer rims. Realistically performance tires are phasing out of the 15" rims. 17" rims have more tire choices. But I'm a huge fan of 15's.

Call up your local America's Tire or Discount Tire. And they will test fit your wheels before you buy. But you have to ask nicely.

any more suggestions? reviving my year-old thread. still going with 15s, now I'm looking at cragar soft 8s, convo pros and cragar v5s... don't flame me, i just want the meanest look for my bird haha.

Everyone knows what I will say so I'll just go ahead and say it. Anything but Rally II's on a FGF is just ghetto IMO. Now that I just offended half the guys on here I must apologize however, it's just the way it is. I've been to enough events to know that even if someone tells you your ghetto rims looks good, as soon as they walk away, out comes the truth. I was never so happy to see the article in Hot Rod magazine (which I usually would never even bother with) that recently said the whole "stock rim, rally rim look was making a massive comeback. Amen! best news I've heard in a long long time in this hobby IMO anyway!!!

AS the photo in my signature, I had ran my stock 14" Rally II's for 8 years. Then I switched to 15x7 Rally II's and a set of red lines and no trim rings! Got more compliments on the car by doing that than anything else I ever did to the car in the entire 10 years we owned it!!!

Good for you, earlybird. I respect your opinion but while Rally IIs indeed look great on FGFs, I would like my FGF to have a different look. This is a toy car for me, and I plan to toy with it in any way that may tickle my fancy.

So, gentlemen, any more suggestions? ghetto or otherwise?

nice rims! i'm planning on getting them as well for when i'm in my protouring mode...

I believe the original HURST wheels were only available in 14". I have a very nice set on my 67 GTO that I'll switching over to my 68 Firebird soon to see how they look. The wheels are stunning--I get tons of compliments on mine. But they can get pretty expensive, especially if you don't know a lot about them when you buy. There are several different variations on the wheel (e.g, shank shape, thickness, bolt pattern, spoke finish), trim rings, provisions to attach the trim rings, center caps, and lug nuts. There are lots of mismatched sets for sale and sets with wheels with modified bolt patterns. You have to be really careful when buying these wheels.

Thanks Sparky..... I was considering the after market versions sold through Performance Years. They have them in 15x7s as well.
