I am looking to buy a 1968 deluxe steering wheel in very good condition. My current steering wheel is cracked and the center cap (aztec firebird) is scratched. Any advice on finding this is appreciated. Haven't been able to fine any reproductions - only the woodgrain ones with the Pontiac Arrowhead center cap.

I have three of them I am going to restore. If only I didn't have a day job...

What do you guys think when someone is looking for a part in the part section. Then they find it and one or two other people want to look at that part also? Is it first come first serve or do we owe any consideration to the original poster?

No wrong or right answer I was just wondering?
I usually just kick myself saying "now why didn't I post that 'parts wanted' first?". Another thing I see is when four or five people post "I have one for sale" after someone already responded that they have one...
Personally I think FCFS, but that doesn't always happen.
I was also curious if the one Vikki has for sale was from Randy in Idaho. I had my name on that one a few years ago and he sold it to her out from under me. Kinda ticked me off. But it may have been him, not her, so I'm OK with how it worked out.

I'm interested but I've already purchased something else(repop wood wheel). This would be in addition. So, I don't have my heart set on it or anything like that and would expect that FCFS would rule the day. But what if she wanted more for it than they were willing to pay? I do have one that could be restored also. But for some reason, I seem to be collecting more parts than I need.

Sorry for the delay, I just got in. I will unpack it tomorrow and get some pics.
I bought a couple of deluxe wheels with the intention of recoloring one for our turquoise car, and a Grant, and a Custom Sport, and have the original off our '68 which is beyond anything but recasting. I am saving one black one, and keeping the battered old turquoise wheel. We went with the woodgrain Custom Sport wheel instead as it goes well with the burlwood and looks more original than the Grant.
Bob has first option, if still available after that it will be open market.

Complete consideration to the original poster.
These steering wheels don't grow on trees nor do they come up for sale often, particularly in good condition.
Secondly, ethically, if the original poster declines to purchase, the seller can sell to anyone he/she wants and does not have to follow a "I was first" in someone elses "part wanted, post.
Hell, I could ask for it after 8 others did and get it.
If Vikki had made her own post in the parts for sale, yes, ethically one should go down the lists on her post.

Thanks for the posts it just seemed odd that someone could ask for help on this site and lose that help because of someone else wanting the same part.
I am not here to judge (because I would be the first to fail) but would like to see some protocol on the parts wanted section.
Sorry if this post rubs anyone in the wrong way....
I would point out three things: 1) that you presume he lost the "help" he was seeking. It appears nothing of the sort has happened. 2) he was looking for an item for sale, what if he didn't like the price? 3) my suggestion of auctioning it off probably wasn't the nicest of ideas and has been handled in my opinion appropriately(ignored)

After one year of climate controlled storage in my guest room (had previously been packed away in a basement for 35 years or so before I purchased it) this wheel is now reduced to restorable quality. In a way I am glad, as otherwise it may have cracked during the heat of sitting in a delivery warehouse or truck, or on the first sunny day in someone's car, and that would have been very disappointing.
On the good side, it has relieved its built up stresses and a repair will be very effective. It will require one of the Eastwood or similar kits to repair.
That said, I can provide pics if anyone is interested.

No offense taken at all. Hope to work something out with Vikki - sure we can.
Just joined this site and look forward to the interaction with fellow enthusiasts. Glad that it is such an active on-line community. I've been having a 68 Firebird restored for the last 9 months and am coming into the homestretch now. Can't wait. Hope to have it on the road in August.
Look forward to further advice from this group in the future.
And for anyone interested I have a restorable complete 67 wheel for 140 bucks. Needs the eastwood's kit or a send out to the guy who does the show restos on the steering wheels. But you could easily use her for a driver until then and get away with some polishing and/or wetsanding. Not as rare as a 68 wheel but hard to find and a cheap price. It also is correct for 67 and 68 GTO. In black.

I was giving my opinion on someone elses "wanted post". No intent to offend anyone as I an an equal opportunity offensive person.
My initial reply was to clarify what I thought proper in a situation as this...but thats just my opinion.
I looked at it in this perspective, my perspective...if I were asking for a set of hard to find #31 RAI heads, and someone (a seller) replied to me, and within 2 days 5 others posted in my wanted ad wanting the SAME set of heads, it puts pressure on me to buy them. As well, it shows the seller that there is a huge demand for these heads NOW at this particular moment and the seller may "phish" for the best offer and not sell to me. Essentially, it all boils down to a sellers integrity to do the right thing...as I know Vikki always does.
Didn't want to get into a disagreement, but the OP request should be limited to a week or so to settle a deal. If someone else wants it, send a PM or make your own post. I surmise it's a free market.
I'll butt out now...

Thanks Vikki. Sorry but don't have your e-mail address. Hang in there with work. If you could send me an e-mail through this website with your e-mail address I would love to touch base. Maybe doing something wrong but can't send one to you.
