A couple questions. I purchased a new engine & front light harnessess from NPD & there's two separate wiring sections that I'm not sure where they go. The first one is one the light harness, its a brown wire that plugs into a brown with white wire via a fuse holder very close to the firewall junction box...I have no idea what this is for & I can't find it in the wiring diagram manual. The second wire set is off the engine harness coming from the starter, it's two wires together, one yellow & the other pink. I'm guessing they go to the coil guessing the positive side but the wiring diagram that I have doesn't show them. Any help is greatly appreciated...thanks!!

Looking at the '68 wiring diagram at the First Gen Site, those lighting wires appear to be related to the front side marker and parking light system. I thought there was a unique cornering light system that '68's had for a short while? I would have to check it out. Hopefully a '68 expert will come along here shortly.

Yes, very early '68's (September '67 only I belive) Has the xtra marker bulbs. I wouldn't think repop wiring would cover these xtra bulbs, but you never know. From memory, I do think those markers had brown wires though I am not positive.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
I feel like I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

Here's the Tech Bulletin:

Tech Bulletin 68-I-17

Apparently you have to order your lighting harness with or without Cornering Lamps if you have 2 bulb or 1 bulb turn signal lamps

OK, lets tackle the other one.

The yellow and "pink" wires together. A couple of questions:

1) Is the "pink" wire actually a thicker looking wire that appears to be fabric-like on the outside and is actually white with a pink and purple stripe on it?

2) Do the "pink" and yellow wires terminate together on the end at a metal "U" shaped hook?

Anyone unsure what that means I have both and for sale if you want a picture for clarification.

Scratch that. The thick white braided wire with pink and purple stripes is the resistor wire which appears to be unique to '67 (which is what I am familar with)

So, is the pink wire actually pink with a black stripe?

wow...thanks for all the info everyone!! This is the first Pontiac I'm restoring, I'm a Mustang guy actually, currently finishing up a 71 Boss 351 but I couldn't pass up this 68 bird. There's just no Pontiac guys around my area to ask any tech questions too. As for the pink/yellow wires, yes...they do terminate into one "U" connector, which I'm guessing goes to the positive terminal on coil which makes me think this is the wires leading from the ignition switch? Thanks again for all the help, greatly appreciated!

Yep, positive coil connection.

I have some Mustang blood in me and would not mind being PM'd a couple of photos of the Boss 351. I came close to having a '71 fastback as my 1st car, but did not like the lack of visibility. So my 1st car was a '70 fastback with a 351 C 4Bbl.

one more question on the front light harness. on the wiring diagram it shows a junction block on the passenger side by the headlights. the red hot wire plugs into it & it shows a "BRN DK" that plugs into it from the positive post of the battery. so...do I just basically run a wire from the positive cable to that junction block then? sorry, I'm just not the greatest wiring guru

If you got the correct OEM replacement positive battery cable, it will have that brown pigtail on it.

If you don't then yes, you will need to run a replacement pigtail to that rad support juction block from the positive terminal.

quick question about the yellow/pink wire going to the coil. I'm hooking up an msd box & msd distributor for this car. Does the wire from the msd box connect to the yellow/pink wire? And if it doesn't does the yellow/pink still stay connected to the coil? Anyone have an msd setup that has done this?
