I got back to the quarter after letting it sit for a month because of fitment issues,(better not to work on it when mad), after pounding and pulling with straps I got it in and fitting about a 7 out of 10, trunk gap and door gap issues on this one side but nothing that cant be fixed. Should have it all welded up tomorrow and start sectioning the roll pan with the craparo one I bought, then on to the full floor pan, oh joy. I still feel that in my situation full quarters were the way to go and you would be surprised what is behind them after 40+ years, glad I went that route

Thats great news Jerry. I know you've been kinda busy but did you manage to get some progress pictures? I myself need to do the same thing in a few years (after the kids get bored with the 'ol man and don't wanna do stuff). Then I'll have more time.
Just checked it out. Nice job Jerry!! It looks like a TON of work to get it to fit. Was the fitment issues due to the new repop panels just not fitting quite right? Is a guy better off to try patch panels if the damage isnt too bad??
Fitment issues are just being repops, I got the door gaps looking nice, the trunk gap on the pass side will require a little work, nothing a coat hanger welded to the lid wont fix. of coarse i'm trying for perfect gaps. Patch panels would be the way to go if damage is minimal I was just wanting to get behind all the panels to put undercoating, and my so called body shop ruined the last panel repair. I started on the roll pan today, pics coming this weekend I hope.
And all of this from someone that has never done any bodywork, I'm a house builder not a bodyman. If I can do it anyone can, just take your time and dont try to rush anything

Thanx for the info and encouragement. I guess I'll have to strip mine to she just how bad it is underneath and evaluate from there. I was thinking a couple of complete repop rear quarters would be the way to go but now I dunno.
I'll check out the roll pan pics when you get em up.
Got the roll pan cut off today, for a car that only had 78000 miles and not on the road since 1989 it was pretty bad condition. I have the camaro rear section cut and will be installing the lower section after the undercoating drys

Camaro piece cut, anyone need a camaro tail light section? I spent $80 to buy the entire piece just to cut it apart, I think I will do the same to a set of repop front fenders(section them apart) and fix my originals with them

Thanks gus, I'll post some pics after I weld the craparo roll pan on. The license plate area will be different but 99% of the people will never notice since the plate holder covers it and the bumper covers the repair section

I'm leaving the craparo plate area. Got the pan on for the test fit today looks good, now some fine tuning before welding, and the lower bumper bolt hole will need to be refabed due to the extra body line

Talking about trunk lid to quarter gap being to big..I found that if the tailpanel is mounted to high this will greatly increase the gap. And, it doesn't take much of a tailpanel being to high to screw everything up. I know repro quarters are crap. I had the same prob but then lowered the tailpanel the trunk lid fit great. I only takes a 1/32" over to make the gap look huge..
one side ready to butt weld in place another hour and it is all ready. I think I'm going to hold off finish welding any more panels now that I am thinking of buying a miller spot welder, should make the floor pan and other easy to reach parts go alot faster

What kind of welder are you using now?
