I hate to write one of those "what XXX is this", but I've been looking for a couple days now and I can't seem to figure out what I have. Maybe I've just been confusing myself. Anyway...
It's out of a 69 firebird with a 350, 2bbl. It's a 2 speed.
From what I've read, most 2 speed firebirds had the ST-300 transmission. But, the pan on those is supposed to be square at the front, and taper a bit towards the back. This has a square pan with a corner chopped off.
I tried to make a picture that shows the markings that I found, and where they are.
I'm guessing this is probably a replacement transmission from a while ago...but I don't know what kind.
The real reason for asking is to get a pan gasket, filter, and front and rear seals for it. Easier to do the service while it's out.
thanks

Here's a pic of the underside (pan off), if it helps.

According to the pan shape/bolt holes - it's a TH 350: Tranny ID Chart And that makes it a 3 speed.

Thanks for that link to the chart. That was helpful.
Is a TH250 a 2 speed?
I think the car origianlly was a column shift, because the linkage for that is still on the firewall. It's now a floor shift. The pattern on the shifter is for a 2 speed, but maybe that doesn't mean anything. Maybe they used a different shifter than originally went with the transmission?
IS there a way to check for sure if it's a 2 or 3 speed with the transmission out? I can move the gear selector by hand...how many "clicks" should there be? One for each position of the shifter (PRNDL)?
Seems dumb that I wouldn't know if it's a 2 or 3 speed...it's a new car to me, and I assumed it was 2 because of the shifter. Maybe I was wrong.

That's a 3-spd TH-350 as the previous poster mentioned. Yes, you can move the lever and should have a detent for each of P-R-N-D-S-L

I'll be damned. How dumb am I? thought it was a 2 speed and it's a 3. The car has been off the road for a while and I was only able to test drive it up and down the road shortly before I bought it...sitting on a milk crate because there was no interior to speak of.
Well, onwards and upwards. Thanks so much for the help!

I did buy a filter and gasket kit for a TH350 and it fit. Front and rear shaft oil seals for a TH350 fit too. I'm sure it's a 350 now.

It has the kickdown for the 3-spd also.
Restoring a 1968 400 4spd, numbers matching Firebird Coupe, Verdoro Green. Larry My old 68. Wish I had her back.
