Howdy!

I tried getting my gauge console out...
Read the forums, saw that I should remove the screws at the bottom of the dash (steering column support)...

Was able to pull the column down just a couple of inches, but this wasn't enough to completely remove the gauge console.

Is there something more I should be able to do?

I was able to pull the console a little bit forward, as well as tilt it. Was able to (painfully and tediously) remove the speedo cable. Still had slack in the wire harness but hadn't removed it yet.

Thanks!

The wire harness plugs into the back of the gauge cluster. You will have to disconnect it, too.

I get that (noted it in my post)... but it seemed like that wasn't taught yet, and that the clearance between column and dash area surrounding the gauge cluster was preventing removal - like I needed to be able to pull the column down an extra inch or two.

you have to remove the 3nuts disconect the speedo cable from inside and pull the column down hard as far as it will go. block it if necessary. then the dash cluster pulls foward and twists to the left (easy for me) or right. unplug the harness. it's a tight fit and you can scratch the dash so prep it with something to keep it for doing so.

I'll give it another shot.

Thank you!

I was able to get mine out only after I loosened the column brace on the inside firewall. That gave me the extra bit of drop in the column to get the carrier out. Remove the plastic piece that's over the carpet, slide the rubber boot up and you can see the brace. It's 2 pieces, there are 2 bolts on either side of the collar that goes around the column. You may have to loosen the 3 bolts that go into the firewall. I didn't, mine were loose.
