I have a TH400 in my 68 Fbird. I know it's got the modulator valve on it, and it's routed with correct vacuum. Tranny shifts nice and firm. However, it won't downshift when I mash the gas.
If I recall, isn't there a cable to do this? There's a Holley performance carb (double pumper) on the car. But, there's only 1 cable that's attached to the throttle linkage. I'm thinking something was overlooked.

It depends on the year of turbo tranny's, the 67 and 68 as I recalled used a electric kick down switch, 69's used a cable,
Is your trans stock?

Original OEM tranny kickdown switches are not reproduced and hard to find in decent condition for a resonable price.
There are modern replacements available from Lokar and B&M. I put a Lokar on mine. The switch itself mounts to the side of the tranny as opposed to the orginal that mounts on the side of the carb as shown in the photo above.

Norm, welcome back and congrats on the firebird shes a beaut!!!
The TH350's (and the Lokar kits as mentioned) use a cable operated kickdown. I know the Th400s from '68 & '69 birds use the kickdown switch in the picture above. Chevy also put them (A bodys, trucks ,etc) under the dash on the gas pedal arm as in this pic. Just have a look and make sure somebody didn't put a kickdown switch there.
