Hello,
I have an Edelbrock 1406 with 600 cfm w/ electric choke on my 69 400 , 4 speed and its going bye bye. Do I want an Electric Choke, Manual Choke or Divorced Choke? Pros and Cons? Which is the best to replace it with.

1)Edelbrock Performer(1411), 750 cfm, 4-Barrel, Square Bore, Electric Choke.
or
2)Edelbrock Performer Q-Jet(9951), 750 cfm, 4-Barrel, Divorced Choke.

Thanx!

I'd do the qjet Spread bore.9951 Why? It give great gas milage and good airflow at the same time; electric choke.I wish they still made the qjet replacement carb. the 1406 is a economy carb.. I did buy a summit street strip carb for my 62 ss in place of the edelbrock 1406. made a big diff in over drivability. its sort of a holley clone. but you can cahge jets without taking the bowls off.

None of the above. I will always vote for a well-tuned and properly rebuilt Rochester Quadra-jet...there is none better than the original...

I agree tooabout the Rochester Q-jet, he should be able to find good used ones that just need to be rebuilt or buy a rebuilt one.

Thank you guys! I think the Q-je is the ONE so now I'll have to convience the hubby who is a fan of Holley. I'll look for a Rochester rebuild and slap on a holley sticker for him....lol.

x100!!!

Take this person's advise, I had all of the ones you mentioned on my bird at one time or another. Until I bought the correct Q-jet from Terry (R.I.P.) my car NEVER ran better! I still have that carb on my 67 LeMans to this day and it's ran flawless since the very day I bought it from him, it was on the bird for several years and now on the LeMans for 2-1/2 and still going!

Yup everytime i go to the swap meet or yard sale and see an old pontiac quadrajet. snagged, usually get them for cheap at yard sales. 2 for 10 bucks.. i only grab the older ones now.

I went to one yard sale that was the result of a divorce. his ex took all of his boxes of 69 GTO parts and put them in a yard sale. I felt bad , everything was there except the body and drive train.I snagged wiring harness, bunch of engine parts dirt cheap. I felt so bad for the guy. i sold all the gto parts on ebay.

I got paid back though , in my divorce my ex took my 1962 Chevy impala SS, it was real nice. my sister was pissed i bougt it from her and her husband after the had it for 15 years. they wanted to keep it in the family.

oops.
