I just pulled out a new rear light gasket from OER to install my rear lights. That gasket is thick and made of non-squishable material. More like a fan belt than a gasket. I have the original gasket which is soft and compressable. Has anyone purchased new gaskets that are correct material. If so, what company? Thanks

It seems that it should be spongy, like the repro front parking lense gaskets.
Try this: Gently scrape off whatevershit you can without damaging the gaskets. Put them in a pot of boiling water and spike the water with a healthy dose of liquid dishwashing soap. Brew them for a while, and the gaskets may spring back to life. I did it with parking lense cover gaskets with exceptional results.
An alternative would be to back up the body side of the old gasket with dumdum. Its slang name is strip caulk. Common sense is the measure as to how thick the dumdum should be.
i had the same gaskets , way too hard. almost as hard as tire rubber. i ended up cleaning up the best set of originals i had and used them. the repops dont give at all, i might have another set of fair to good original gaskets . I can look this week end.
Thanks for the reply guys. I was lucky in that I still had the original gaskets and was able to re-use them. There was no way I could make those hard rubber gaskets work.

ya, ditto, i cant believe they sell that junk. i had the same thing happen with my "new OER" door seals.I had to trim them to get the door to close, then slam them to get them to close all the way. I left them closed all winter. they are better , but im going to replace them. I cant understand why manufactures believe selling this stuff is ok. i could cut out a better set of gaskets with the correct foam rubber and an x-acto knife. How can somebody make something and have an original available and think that hard rubber is OK and will work fine. My tail panel was actually bending before the rubber would compress. I tried everything to soften them.
