Well its just another day in paradise trying to put the car back together. Here is the latest issue I am dealing with on the 69. I found out the car had a cobbled Non-tilt column. Purchased a quality rebuilt Tilt column as a replacement. When the column was installed it was determined that the ignition switch for the non-tilt was different than the tilt ignition switch. My question is, Where do I go and what do I need to adapt the current non tilt plug/harness to a tilt plug/harness.
Thanks a ton Jimmy

I remember going through the same thing when I switched to a tilt column in my '69. The "new" column came with a Camaro switch that didn't match with the Firebird's wiring harness.I couldn't just swap the switches because there is a difference between tilt and non tilt units. One is a push to engage and the other is a pull to engage. IIRC the switch can be changed somehow to go either way but I can't remember how it is done. As with so many other things i've done to my car, I didn't take any pictures thinking nobody cares what I'm doing here in my garage. I realize this is probably not a whole lot of help.

First: Thanks for responding. Second: Although not specific , you offer a glimmer of hope which is very important Third: what does IIRC stand for in you post.

Ok after 24hrs of frantic research here is what I have found with regard to Firebird ignition switch info.
1. 1969 - 197? share a common switch body for a tilt column 2. Pontiac uses a different ignition switch than that of a Camaro 3. A 69 dash wire harness plug fits both non-tilt and tilt columns 4. To utilize a tilt column, you have to have the specific Pontiac tilt column ignition switch.

It seems to me that the switch can be turned 180 degrees in the mounting bracket (that mounts it to the steering column) to change it from push to pull. I know that I modified my existing switch to work with a tilt column. The only differance in the two is that one gets pushed with the rod from the key and the other gets pulled.
You need the green switch that has the part # ending with 093.That switch fits all 69-70 Pontiacs with tilt except 70 Firebirds. When installed the plastic fittings that the wires are in will have to be twisted half a turn to fit into the new switch if changing non-tilt to a tilt. This switch is usually about $50.00 if bought new,not all venders have it but it is still availible.
I gotta know. - Andy S. your sig says 1969 R/A IV T/A. Do you have one of the 55 R/A IV Trans Ams? Is it one of the 9 rare automatics? That would be WAYYYY COOL !!!
