Hi, i know a guy who has a 68 400 hood he wants to sell. He says it original. Is there any way to tell if its really an original and not a repo? Also any idea what a good price to spend would be? I just have no idea what they go for. Thanks for the help

Look around the catch area. Many of the repops have unwelded seams and poorly rolled (and sharp) edges in that area.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
I feel like I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

I may be wrong but, does the re-pop not have a higher front nose? I know the front looks alot different from my standard hood.

The best and easiest way to tell is all original hoods had a number stamp on the rear most underhood brace, driver side of center. Hard to see sometimes especially after multiple paint jobs but if you get the light sideways you should be able to see it if it's there. Might just look like a dented in spot on the flat brace.

goodmark hoods have a stamp on the front latch area to the left or right of the latch hole. this can be filled in. if possible you can scratch it to see if there is some filler. rust is a good indicator for a original. check inside the braces for it.

Mine is still as it came from the factory. Ignore the 1987 #62 overspray and focus only on the Obnoxious Orange that seeped into the seam

There is a huge difference in the way they are welded together and the way it was 'crimped' to hold as it was welded.

Just as Robert describes, to the left of the center, on the inside back of the inner frame. The lip in the picture is the back of the hood.

Some free advice...if it looks pretty good now just fix the little areas that have issues, don't strip the whole thing down. I've done 3 or 4 now that didn't look too bad until I took it all the way down to bare metal. I was surprised to find it looked like someone had a tap dance party on them. I was beginning to wonder if all hoods came with a plastic skin from the factory.
