Recently relocated to L.A. after a decade in NYC, I'm on the hunt to purchase a '68 or '69 coupe to use as a daily driver (though luckily not a commuter - I work from home). The '69 Convertible is a legend in my family - my Dad purchased a gold one new, but it was wrecked on the autobahn in Germany where he was stationed only a couple years later.
Looking for a Coupe for myself to keep the dream alive. Seeking: -350 engine (anything more might be too much for me) -Auto trans -Power steering -Power drum or disc brakes (front is good enough) -As mechanically sound as possible + ready to drive -Rust-free body, but don't care at all about paint quality/imperfections. In fact prefer primer for now. -Interior quality doesn't matter, as long as it has seats to sit in
Seen a few here in L.A. area this summer, but haven't found "the one."
I know you're all gonna say "get in line," but any and all leads appreciated! Below is a photo of my mom in what started the obsession:
Thanks Hank - glad to be on the forum and all advice welcome and appreciated. Thought it might be the best idea to join after hours and hours of Craigslist + Ebay hunting. Fingers crossed my mechanic will sign off on the one I saw last week, but I fear the rust hole right side of the back window may make it a no-go. -Nina

Thanks for the tip Don - the Trans Am looks gorgeous and I'll bookmark that website. Sadly it seems a bit beyond my pay grade right now, and almost too nice for a daily driver. In L.A. I think I need something which can get scratched up a bit. Don't want to have a heart attack every time I go to park!
Ponti - thanks for pointing out your '68 in the For Sale section. Looks good but I fear a 400 would be too much for me on a daily basis. Also trying to avoid the vinyl top on a coupe if possible. Good luck on your sale though.

Looked at that one, but seems like a fair amount of rust? Trying to decide on a '68 coupe I test drive here a couple weeks ago, but also worried about a rust hole on the body. It's a good deal $-wise, but not if it needs another $6K of body work: Craigslisthttp://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/3296884235.html
Common area for costal rust. I wonder if the car originally had a vinyl top? If those are the only areas of rust, wouldn't be too bad to fix. Its all the other unknown areas. If the car really was repainted 12 years ago, most questionable areas should be showing by now. Looks like the car is always kept outside too. Wear and tear will show faster out in the elements.

Thanks for your take - finally got a mechanic opinion on it this morning based on photos and he said the exact same thing about the possible vinyl top in its history. Also thought that rust was indicative of a much great issue underneath and his exact words were "don't touch that car with a 10 foot pole." So I passed.
When a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Seems like a lot of BS , not original engine as stated , that it a Chevy small block , camaro rear spoiler , hood to fenders @ top look like it was whacked , etc.

Not because I bought it, which is good (I think). Seller was a bit shady about the Chevy engine, some kind of undisclosed transmission leak, etc. Also wouldn't come down from the $16K asking price even with those flaws.
Apparently he sold it this morning for $16K though, so good for him!
Still on the hunt for mine and trying to remember the right car is bound to come along one day.
Are you Still looking there are some nice 69's in az I have a friend who might be selling his! Let me know and I can send you some pic's.. PM me Thanks BillS
