What do you guys think of this deal? I love the car and colour, would be nice if it was a 4sp though.I asked him a general question on the condition of the car
His response to me below. Sound fishy to anyone else?

Hello,

My 1969 Pontiac Firebird is still for sale. I'm a private seller and my asking price is $13,200. The car is tidy and mechanically in good running condition, non smoker, 92990 Km. always garaged, has never been involved in any accident It has no leaks or drips. My brother owned this car, he lived in, Canada. My brother died two months ago in a motorcycle accident and now I'm the owner of the car but I decided to sell it. I also don't want to get rich on the death of my brother so that's why I have lowered the price. I'm from Greece and is very difficult for me to get the car shipped here to my country so I chose to sell the car in Canada. I'm not interested in any trades, only to sell it for cash! The car is priced for a fast sale, so it would be better if you don't need financing. Please let me know where are you located and if you need anything else.

To see the pictures, copy and paste this link in your browser:

Thanks for your interest,
Peter Kenttwan

sure reads like a scam. Set up a place to look at it and see what his response is then.

Why is the ad dated in Oct? He has not been able to sell it yet?

Very nice car worth checking on.

Run away quickly unless you can physically verify that this car exists and is for sale.

The guy could have easily scammed some nice photos from some source on the web and is then trying to get you to send $$$ to Greece for a car that is not his.

He can wait to sell it when he gets back into the country if it's for real.

Thats what i thought,SCAM.I sent him a message to see where the car actually is and to see if someone could check it out to verify its condition.I would only deal in person, and even then would check the vin with the police. Nice car though .What are your thoughts on the asking price? According to the ad Its about 4hrs from me in Ontario,But it has no front plate (Mandatory in Ontario) plus the rear plate says "Michigan"?

If the car is real the asking price seems to be good for the apparent condition. Seems to be nicely optioned (deluxe interior, Gauge cluster, clock etc.).

Pretty much confirms a scam, got this reply back :

Hi again,

As I've already told you, I'm located in Greece and I can't make the sale in person because I'm not in US. I chose to sell the car online using Google Checkout services to close the deal for our secure. First you need to make the payment to Google Checkout by bank transfer and after this the shipping will start and will take 2-3 days depending on your location. I've already prearranged the entire process with them. The car is located in Helena MT in a hangar of Google Checkout ready for delivery to my buyer address. I thought you might want to see the car, no worries because I'll grant you a 5 days inspection period, to test ride it starting the moment you receive it and before Google Checkout releases the payment to me. I think this is more than fair for both of us. The payment will be handled by Google Checkout so if you are still interested to proceed further in this deal just email me your full name, your address as is stated in your ID, phone #, and shipping address if you want to get the car delivered to other place than your residence address. As soon as I get this information I will register you as my buyer with Google Checkout and they will send you the Invoice trough e-mail regarding the payment and shipping for our deal.

Thanks for your understanding,

Harry 69 Firebird

Man, reminds me of the old James Garner movie "Skin Game".

My favorite quotes:

The car is located in Helena MT in a hangar of Google Checkout ready for delivery to my buyer address. [Google has hangars?]

I'll grant you a 5 days inspection period, to test ride it starting the moment you receive it and before Google Checkout releases the payment to me [i.e. no see car until I get my moola]

sounds like the guy we "bought" a 4-wheeler from back in '04. He said it shipped but we still haven't seen it.

Had a chick in the states try to scam me on a 69 TA. Found the real owner in FL. She stole his pics and listed the car.

I'd tell him my brother just happens to live in Helena, and coincidentally works for Google. He said he'd be happy to check out the car for me. I just need the lot number so he can look it up. laugh

price is way to low for a nice car....if it had been priced for a quick sale at 19,000-20,000 it would be more believable

Definitely a scam! Many web forums are littered with these stories about someone in Europe, or some Third World country, who has a GTO or some other desirable classic in the America, and some sob story about a deceased father, uncle, brother, etc. They always claim they know nothing about cars, they just want to sell it. And it's always at a phenomenal price.

They never go through E-Bay, they target CraigsList or some other outlet. They steal some pics off the web, usually use the "real" sellers description, but they don't own the car.

They always ask you to send money, or a down payment, and make up some story about why they can't show you the car (like they're in Europe, etc). They convince you that you can look at the car, drive the car, and even keep it for a few days, all before your money is "released" to them. And if for any reason you don't like the car, you keep your money. But Western Union, Google, etc. don't work that way.

The guy takes your money, there was no car for sale, and because they live in some Third World country, there's no way to track them, no way to sue them.

This scam has been going on since the web started. Please be careful! wink

scum buckets. they typically live in africa or india. doesnt mean they are african or indian though. one thing you will also never get is a phone number. they will tell you they either dont have a phone or they are deaf mutes and have to communicate via email only. theyre fun to f____k with once or twice but then it gets old besides once you email them it might be possible for them to hack your computer or put a virus in an email. like click here to see photos etc, then youre screwed. if it seems to good to be true for sure.
