The dash pad that was on my 68 Firebird when I bought it serveral years ago was in very bad shape. I found out later on that it was a poor aftermatket dash pad with a very bad fit. For some reason, the middle of the dash pad over the center AC vent was not secured to the metal dash frame behind it. Seemed like there was moulding missing to hold it down. So, recently I ordered an OER urethene dash pad to replace it. The OER dash pad fits ok, but the bottom area over the center AC vent is molded different than the one I took out. There is a flat channel about 3/4" wide that goes from the drivers side headlight switch and ends at the right side of the center AC vent. Does anyone ave any idea what type of moulding goes there? I have checked on line and cannot find what type of mouldings I need to finish it off. I may return the dash pad if I cannot figure this out soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Seems to me someone asked that very question some time ago on this site. There is metal trim that fits there but I thought it went all the way across. I hope you find out where to get one, mine is missing also.
Thanks for the quick responses. I posted a slightly better picture. On some Firebirds there is a chrome trim piece that goes along the bottom of the dash and then down the left and right sides, but this recessed area in the picture is something else. It looks like there is supposed to be some kind of decorative trim that goes there, which is why I think it is not the right dash pad for my Firebird. I spoke to the tech support people at OER today and they agree that it does not look right. The tech said that he would pull one out of stock and look at it to compare. He will be calling me back later this afternoon, so I may not post the answer until tomorrow. I just hope that I don't have to wait another two weeks to get a replacement if that is the case. Until tomorrow...
If you are interested, I have a brand new (never opened box) of an OER '68 teal dash I'd sell at a reduced rate. I ended up having my old one repaied so I don't need the new one.
(if they are willing to take that one back) Just throwing that out there if you or anyone else is interested.
Not all '68's came with the chrome trim. My '400 'vert does not have it, but my other two '68's do. We had a thread going about this a couple of years ago.

Robert, you are correct, that is a 69 pad. OER confirmed it yesterday. They sent me a 68 in a 69 box. Just my luck. I am now waiting another two weeks for them to sen me the correct 68 dash pad. By te way, I opted for the upgraded vital wrapped pad this time. That urethane pad is truly a POS. I learned that first hand. Can't wait to get it and put it on, car has been in the garage for a month. Summer is passing me by. LOL.
