The car is a 69 very early build 10/68 and at the moment has one horn.

The previous owner was good about leaving everything stock only for when the car was left in the hands of Mr. Cheap Rates mechanic. During the early 70's the car received some air horns which I am still working on correcting small cosmetic issues over. Problem is that I am unsure whether or not the car came with one or two horns from the factory.

Can someone point me in the right direction to determine what (horns) the car came with?

I have a single horn as well. From what I understand, single horns are installed when you have a STD interior.

Interesting. 69 was a strange year for these things. Mine has a deluxe interior so I'll guess that it is missing a horn? Thing is that there are many items amiss on this car. Standard belts/deluxe interior - One Camaro window crank - 68 straight bevel vent globes - one horn/deluxe interior - etc.

Since the 69 year streamlined parts like harnesses I doubt that I will be able to know this wy but I will go check the factory harness i have saved. I did look for marks on the core support and didn't see anything?

Looking at the 69 assy manual, it looks like the dual horn option was U05, do you have a build sheet for your car or anything else that might show you the options that came with your bird? I know I have standard interior in my 400, but i would have to look and see if that option came with the W66 option (400) or if it was added or someone just put the econd horn on my car.

Well yup the build sheet claims that the car has #324 which the Decor group should have dual horns.

Decor Group
414 - Dual Horns
451 - Deluxe Wheel Covers
461 - Deluxe Steering Wheel
464 - Wheel Opening Mouldings and Roof Drip Mouldings
514 - Custom Pedal Trim Plates 32 4

Hmmm? If a Decor Group is specified in the build sheet and all of the items are there for the exception of the one horn what would be the explanation?

Mine was built in Van Nuys but I doubt that would make any difference.

Sorry, about confusion, meant U05 is UPC code for the dual horn option, which you all have the code for already.

Mine was built the same place around the same time (Oct 68 I believe, will have to look again to verify exact time), and I have both horns.

I asked over at PY and never heard anything back.

By doing so am I asking the exact same crowd between websites?

Lastly, is there another source I could look to for answers?

Pretty sure dual horns were an option whether you got deluxe or not. Not positive though as mine was an early Van Nuys build as well and had them both when I got it. I don't think you can tell by the wiring harness if it had one or two because the connection will be there regardless.

BTW. Who in the hell said the straight bar vent balls were camaro??? They were an early build thing not a camaro thing.

What does your PHS build sheet say?

My first Bird was an early production Van Nuys car (LOS on the data plate). Had the deluxe seatbelts, custom interior, straight headreasts, straight bar vent balls and came with a single horn. PHS docs dont show dual horn option and it wasn't included because of the interior.

My current Bird is also a VN car (later production). Deluxe seatbelts, custom interior, + vent balls, angled headrests and a single horn. PHS docs for this car also fail to have the horn option.

I am pretty sure they were an option unto themselves and not part of an appearance or interior package.

Cant comment on 69's.
My 67-400 has standard interior with dual horns.
1st 68-350HO had standard interior with dual horns.
Current 68(was 350/standard interior) has wiring for dual horns but only one. However, car been gone thru couple times before i got it, so...

Whoops! Still not done. When looking through the Custom Trim 554 its states the Dual Horns again.

I apologize for beating this to death but I want to get the car right.

<snip> from FGF

Q: '68 Custom Trim Option
I am confused that my car has the custom option trim (554) but it only has standard interior.

A: The Custom Trim Option with custom seats for the '68 Firebird was identified on the Firewall Trim Tag as Style 22667 (conv) -or- 22637 (coupe). (22467 and 22437 were Std. Interiors).

According to the sales literature, the Custom Trim Option (code 554) included the following.....

Deluxe Wheel Discs -not on the car
Deluxe Steering Wheel
Door and Quarter Trim (molded vinyl)
Vinyl and Weave pattern Seats
Roof Rail Mldgs
Wheel Opening Mldgs
Instrmt. Panel Grip (Grab Bar)
Pedal Trim
Dual Horns - not on the car

This is the second mentioning of it being listed both in the Decor Group 324 and the Custom Trim 554 option which is on the car.

Was it where GM listed these items in groups but then just left stuff off that you didn't get? Seems strange that a $5 horn would be a source of profit?

It seems that mot of the other items listed in these "groups" are on the car sans an additional option listing on the build sheet. Another one is that the car has standard seat belts but it is listed to have them according to the groups that were purchased for the car on the build sheet.[color:#FF0000]

If the wiring is there(most likely), put one on.
Don't sound good without both a high and low note.

RW I appreciate the comment but I can't do that unless it was installed from the factory. I am trying to find out if the car is correct? And YES! the car sounds terrible with the single weak WHOOOONKK horn lol but if that is the way it came from Van Nuys that is the way it will stay.

Just saw this thread!

The Decor Group (324) in 1969 included:

-Dual Horns
-Deluxe Wheel Covers
-Deluxe Steering Wheel
-Wheel Opening Moldings
-Roof Drip Moldings
-Custom Pedal Trim Plates.

However, on a Firebird 400, the wheel opening and roof drip moldings were part of the 400 package (along with the chrome grille surrounds), so that may be why you sometimes see these items ordered individually, and other times, such as on a non-400 car, you may see the Decor Group ordered.

My 1969 is Firebird 400, Van Nuys built (Dec 68), and did not have the Decor Group. But ordered individually:

414 - Dual Horns
461 - Deluxe Steering Wheel
514 - Custom Pedal Trim Plates

In lieu of the deluxe wheel covers, they ordered Rally II's.

Hope that helps!

Mike

Ah, see I was beginning to think it might be a 68/69 thing. That maybe they included them in 68 but made you pay for them in 69 as a cost issue. So I wonder if you ordered the custom trim package and wanted the rallys, if the dealer gave you some sort of a break or if they just took the wheel covers and put them in the back room stash and charged extra you for the rallys?
