I am tired of the reproduction non-breathing comfort weave. So I'm going to try this and see how this works out. I want to buy your original comfort weave seat covers (front and/or back). Whatever you have. I want to see if I can make a recycled set for my cars. Please pm me if you have any laying around or if you are going to recover yours so I can make you an offer on yours.
Thanks.

I don't know what they have left but you may be able to find some NOS original Comfortweave and Madrid vinyl material at SMS Fabrics: http://www.smsautofabrics.com/I had a new set made with material I bought from them.

I haven't called them. I read on a Camaro board SMS no longer had Comfortweave. I am still interested in the recycled material if at worst it turns into a bad experiment.
Great looking bird, Jim!

For what it is worth, I called SMS about a year ago to see about getting original comfortweave material for my Firebird. They sent me a sample and if memory serves, it was a different grain than the original Firebird stuff...more course. I could be wrong so would recommend calling them yourself. The material is quite expensive, but would be brand new!

This is why I am keeping my originals which is in great condition and have them just replace the side panels.

Just for reference.
I was looking over my comfort weave that is on my seats and it looks identical to the comfort weave samples I just got from SMS.
The samples of comfort weave I got from legendary is nothing like what I have.
I was thinking my seat covers may have been replaced but I am thinking that they may be the original covers now.

I have older comfort weave as well but how do you tell if it's original?

I'll see how this shows up here. Left is original Comfortweave (worn and color-shifted a bit) Right is the SMS Comfortweave. In person they look the same. ------------------------------------------------------- And here are two repro versions available at the time I did mine. One has a much closer appearance to the origianl material but is solid with no venting. Real Comfortweave you can somewhat see through all the tiny breathable holes. (Hence the "weave".)

Here is a sample of mine too. The left is my original parchment comfort weave (old and dirty) and the right is an SMS sample of parchment.

Also what did you get for the other vynal material? I have the solar red/ red interior as well in my HO vert. You have to go off your PHS to get the right code for the shade of red. Jim, When you had them re-upholster yours- how close did they come to matching the original "Piping" that goes around the seats? Was it expensive (excluding material) to get the seats re-done? I will be going with SMS as well.

Chris, Was the info on the WayBack Machine copy of my old dead website the info you wanted?
Sleddog, When I purchased the red Comfortweave, I also bought their matching vinyl. At the moment I cannot locate my receipt but I recall something in the neighborhood of $400-$500. Note that was ten years ago now. (Time does fly.) I had them done at Fryer's Auto Upholstery in Vancouver Wash. Soon after Ron Fryer did mine they changed hands so I don't know how they are after they did mine. If by "piping" you mean that bead along the seams, I believe they make that fresh with the Madrid vinyl and stock cord when they do the work. Here's some info I posted and lost years ago when Geocities killed my free website. The Wayback Machine had made a copy: http://web.archive.org/web/20091027092458/http://www.geocities.com/jims68fb/Comfortweave.html

Just curious,
How much of the CW material is needed to do the two front buckets and rear bench. I had to have mine redone two years ago but are kind of hot on the sunny days. They were purchased through Ames Performance (I think the were PUI) along with new foam. They are ok on the not so hot days but am with the original poster's comments regarding wanting the seats to breath, especially with a hard top and no ac until going 55 mph.

Bump on the comfort weave question. Has anyone ordered it to redo the two front buckets and rear bench of a first gen firebird and how many yards were required?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin-

Kevin, The Wayback Machine still has a copy of my old website where I had a page devoted to my Comfortweave story from about 9 years ago. It includes the amount they wanted me to order to do the job. I don't recall the amount of left-overs they returned to me but I also ordered a little extra Comfortweave for future repairs when the same material might not be available.

SMS will tell you how much you need. I ordered 3 yds of comfort weave. That was enough to do both buckets and the rear seat with some left over for repaired.
