Hey, I'm going to a swap meet tomorrow. Can anyone tell me how to id a posi rear end for a 69 bird. I think I want a posi rear and figure I can look there. Thanks Pete

Go to http://www.1968firebird.org/index.html and d/l the service manual. The section on differentials has a chart relating gear ratio and open vs cone clutch compared with the two letter axle code.

You will have to find the faint markings on the axle tubes 1/2 way between the left wheel and the pumking to compare to the charts. These markings are hidden by rust and difficult to find.

You can turn one hub and see if the other turns the same direction for clues. A lot would be taken on faith.

Or you could skip the swap meet part that will probably need to be rebuilt if you find one and buy a new posi carrier and install it in yours.

There are probably Nova parts that would work too; maybe someone else will add comments here soon.

I like the idea of buying a new posi carrier. Can anyone shed some light about that? Where to get one how difficult to install and such? Thanks, Pete
