Quick question. I have the pichweld convertible well mouldings off the car to polish them and so not to have them on the car as well when it is painted. I've been thinking, since i removed them when there was no roof on the car and had easy access to the screws, will this be a problem having them off the car for paint but it will have a new roof on it at that time and will this interfere with the reinstall of the moulding and is there a good chance of damaging the new top?Should i just put them back on the car prior to roof install and painmt and just have them masked?

Is there any way you can do a mock assembally before paint? That way, you'll have a better idea of what you'll be getting into.

Amervo,I have no roof material to do a mockup with the roof material installed.I'm worried i'll have to unbolt the U shaped part that holds the top and window to the body to access the screws to screw the mouling in place which i don't want to do.It was easy to remove them with no worries.Ahhh, maybe i just install them and have the roof done then mask super well for paint and hope the paint creeps under there in good fassion.

While your in the area I have a question. I'm trying to reassemble a 68 400 conv. that I bought 2 yrs ago in pieces. There is a strut that supports the top and swivels from the inside (towards the middle of car)of the mounting location. Is there a bushing or bracket that this strut attaches to or through? I've looked at all the catalogs, Pontiac 67 parts catalog, and can't get a good look. I've got it at an upholsterer to put the top on, but keep finding missing parts. Thanks, Scott

Scott, i have my upholstery off my 68' vert right now but the roof frame is masked off right now. I will be removing the masking tonight and i'll take some pics and post them here and see if it will help you out.

The pinchwell molding can be installed with the top material back on. Just put the top 3/4 of the way down and there is enough room to get a stubby phillips in there.

Scott, here is one picture of the center rod that does swivel, i'm not exactly sure what you mean but i'm thinking this is the section you need info on,unless you mean the arm to latch the roof to the bracket area? Something to think about: If you have to drill out any of your screw holes for pinchweld trim it will be difficult with top installed.

Thanks Jim, my pinchweld moulding is removed and i ran into that issue removing them. If i can get at them with the roof partly folded back then i should be good.
