Hi Everyone....Unfortunately when I left my car sitting for the last couple of years while I was stationed in VA, parts of the transmission dried up ETC. and wouldnt shift out of first gear. This is a shame because the tranny was purchased new (TH350) 8 years ago and proabably has 400 miles on it.
I took it into a transmission shop and they said it either needs to be replaced or rebuilt.
I have always wanted a 4 speed automatic because driving the TH350 it always seemed like there should be another gear there. Anyways....Its going to be close to $2000 all said and done for a rebuilt TH400 installed, new torque converter etc (and they would throw in installing the new hurst shift)
Question is if I wanted to put in a 4 speed automatic...would it be that much more and would it fit easily using a 700R or 200? Any and all informtation would be greatly appreciated.
I currently have a 350 motor in it.(I am not drag racing and probably wouldnt push more then 400hp if I eventually replaced the motor.)
I know for a 2004R tranny swap, you need to have a TH400 crossmember and it needs to be in the Th400 position. A 350 crossmember will not work., you will also most likely need to shorten the driveshaft also.
The only way I would go through the expense of an AOD transmission would be if I had 3.55 or steeper gears and or I did a lot of highway driving. I would be interested
X2 A friend spent over $2700 for a 200r4 and convertor and all the other B.S. from a popular trans company that was supposed to have all the good parts. The junk only lasted 4 months before he had to throw another $650 at it. I'll stick with my t350's - t400's.
Havent had a problem with my 2004R and wasnt very hard to put it in. The worse part is the TV cable. 2004R are not junk if you have a good builder beefing them up correctly!
