First off... Is this an original engine in your car? Secondly, if original, what is your 2 letter block code? Ram Air pans (first link) were ONLY for Ram Air cars. ALL 400 cars came with hoods with hood scoops. Only a handful (less than 500 Firebirds) out of 89,500 or so produced came with the upper ram air pan affixed to the lower side of hood and foam seal (as indicated by your first link). These cars came with a seperate hood scoop part number (open scoops) which was a different part number from the closed hood scoops which came on the other 10,400 400 manual and autos which ALL sported 400 hoods with CLOSED hood scoops. The PROPER air cleaner with the proper carb if your car is a 400 is a 7028274 carb or a 7028275 carb. The PROPER and CORRECT air cleaner for a 400 car WITHOUT Ram Air is http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-68-PONTIAC-...61d&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-gto-or-fire...720&vxp=mtrSome sources say the base housing (in black with snorkel) is PP, some say PR. Google is your friend...

You could always do what I did, stick some 96 heads on your car and open up the scoops.
I do have an air cleaner base that I believe to be a correct PR, it is slightly different than the PP one I have for my latest project. The main difference being the snorkel dimensions are a little narrower at some points. I'm not sure if the variation is intended(perhaps different suppliers of the part or maybe they varied between Firebird and Camaro as they went down the production line) nor if either part I have is correctly identified. I do believe when I stick it on the car, no one will question its authenticity.
I also have a Pontiac air cleaner base for a 350 engine. Again, not 100% certain of its correct application.

Some sources say the base housing (in black with snorkel) is PP, some say PR.
There were two codes for the 400 & 400HO in '68. The PR is for the $7 heavy duty filter element option (recommending the AC279 filter with the sponge wrapped around it. I don't know the code for the standard air cleaner but it called for different filter element (A212??)

Thanks for the response. The engine is not original but is a Pontiac age correct engine. I don't think the car is a ram air car.

Dave yes it is John from Penticton. Thanks for the pictures. The nozzle on your air cleaner (need to be careful how I word this as per Banshee's comment) to pointing to the left. Most I've seen go to the right. I've found a place that you can get air cleaners ( http://www.musclecaraircleaners.com/home.html ) Have you heard of them?

The single nozzle is the way to go. That's what she said... BOOM! LOL Seriously though, the web site you mentioned has 400-4v stickers on their air cleaners that were not original to the birds. just wanted to point that out in case you were trying to get back to stock appearance. Some are- some are not.

Thanks for the response. Was there a sticker? If so can you send me a pick of what it looks like? Thanks for the joke. I had a good laugh.

No stickers on Pontiacs. That's a Buick and Chebby thing.

No stickers on Pontiacs. That's a Buick and Chebby thing. "Can't blame Buick for cool stickers ", said the Buick owner.

I have a PR and PP air cleaner housing.
The PR has a raised thin metal baffle inside the housing, diverting the air...interesting.

Appearance wise, sans black housing and chrome cover, appears correct.
If you do not mind me asking, what did you pay?
