Getting 68 Bird. It's currently the original Flambeau Burgundy...don't mind the color but it's not my favorite. Always wanted Alpine Blue or Aleutian Blue. Wondering how everyone feels about changing color away from the original? A mistake or not? Decrease value much even if I keep it a stock color they had in 68?
I would think it would decrease value even by keeping it a stock color, but it may make it easier to sell down the line. There's a reason they call it "resell" red. Ultimately, it is your choice as you are the owner of the vehicle. A lot depends on your goals with the vehicle, keep it forever, a hobby for a few years, looking to flip in the next year, etc. As far as colors go, I would take the burgundy every day of the week over say a Mayfair Maize.

Ouch! Mayfair Maize is one of my favorites! Now white, tan, or Verdoro, those would be near the bottom of my personal list. Like woven says, if you are going to keep the car long(er) term, make it what you want. And i'd pick a stock color over say 2011 Camaro color any day! Color choice comes down to personal preference and personality any day.

My first car love was a 1967 Firebird with a 326, it was Mayfair Maize. The owner never sold it to me, after matching his offer on several occasions. Never heard what happened to it. My Buick is Bamboo Cream which crosslists to Sierra Yellow(Pontiac) and Gobi Beige(Chevy). I consider it the Mayfair Maize of '70 GM colors, not bad looking and will look great with black interior and convertible top and the GS trim which is red and has nice highlights. But you'll be hard pressed to find someone who'll pay the market price for a car with that color. This was hammered home in my mind with a '70 LS6 Chevelle at the Mecum auction in Dallas. It was Gobi Beige with the appropriate white stripes down the center. It struggled to get to 100k. Similar red with black LS6s get there in a couple bids.
Many people don't like verdoro green, I consider it the quintessential '68 Pontiac color. How could 18% of all buyers that year be wrong?(#1 color that year) Of course, avocado green was probably the #1 color among refrigerators that year and those have obviously stood the test of time!

Won't decrease the value much by changing color, especially to a factory color, correct for your make, model, and year. Once the car has been repainted, it's not original paint anymore anyway, so unless you're going for a 100 point show car, or are intending it to be points judged, paint it whatever color you like.
Well said! And you can check out Aleutian, Aegean, and Flambeau side by side next week. As well as red.

I was initially looking for a Firebird locally and was getting close to a 68 400 Convertible in Melbourne... best I could make out it had been repainted 69 Midnight Green. When I questioned the owner about the incorrect colour he said he couldn't handle that 'terrible' Verdoro Green and had to change it.
I showed pics of the car to my wife... the (censored) response was... "no way will I ride in a car that colour!"
Hence I kept looking and eventually bought my re-sale Regimental Red (its original R-1 colour)... which I love (so does she ).
Craig's house? I might be driving by to represent Nightshade Green. Didn't get the memo either? Gordy

part of the allure of these older cars is the wild colors a decade like the 60's could produce. Freedom realized after years of black cars. I wasn't a fan of verdero green until I saw it in person. I don't care if it is popular now or not. I am by no means a purist but like stock looking resto mods.
ah baby blue and verdero green under the lights. Your car your choice, but why not keep it original.
