Older cars typically have very nice steering but the steering is soft or feels like it 'floats' compared to newer cars
and older sports cars. Especially on corners. It is fine, and just takes some getting used to, however I was curious if there is a [relatively easy?] solution to tightening up the steering.
I haven't bought my Firebird yet, but have test drove a couple.

Best thing to do is get yourself a quick ratio steering box. If you choose to keep your original one, there is one thing you can do to reduce play. Raise up the front and loosen the nut on top of your steering box. Using an Allen wrench, slowly turn it clockwise until you notice resistance. Back off screw 1/2 turn and snug up nut.

x3, newer boxes than 79 or 80 require a kit to convert but neither the kit nor the steering box are expensive or hard to install
