Is the dash speaker worth replacing sound wise, or is it better to get kick panel speakers? I have a good pair of speakers on the package shelf but the dash one has never worked.

Really depends on your radio. Our OEM classic radios require 8-10 ohm speakers and it was set up for a single front radio unless you have the stereo option.

If you only have the OEM radio, then duel speakers should not be any better. If you install new speakers 4 ohm with your classic radio then it will damage the radio.

If you have a new or upgraded radio then the duel speakers will be much better since it will be stereo tuner.

Agree, the old original radios can only power up two 10 ohm speakers.

The OEM rear "speaker" option only came with one rear speaker, so along with the front gave a maximum of two. (with the fader option)

If you are concerned about stereos and speakers then your engine is not putting out enough mechanical music to entertain you. And all that $$$ for radios could go toward more engine music!

That's become my philosophy. Along with the realization that nothing I could put in the Firebird would hold a candle to the factory Shaker system in my modern Mustang.

Yep, what he ^ said. Would need several hundred amps to hear a radio in my 68 with 3" Borla mufflers.
The 67 is lot more quite with 2.5 in/2.25 out, but still rather listen to the car vs radio.

Ha, like that about "engine music", its healthy in that dept. but you need something to go with the beer and late nights working on it.

I should have mentioned I was looking at the replacement dual center speakers like what CI sells; advertised as 80 watts. I also have an aftermarket stereo. I was just wondering if the placement, under the dash and mostly under the windshield, made it worthless (regardless of engine music ) .

Btw Salmon, you take any of those cars to the local shows? I should have my 67 at OKC in a couple weeks, even its just got a seat and steering wheel inside.

Back in 78-79, installed a Clarion(sp?) stereo with triaxials. 6x9s in back, a center in dash, and cant remember what brand under the front seats. Could vibrate the whole car listening to Nugent, Rush, Van Halen LOL.
Having the center dash speaker was much better then just the ones under the seats.
Never had any in kick panel, but think it would be even better vs way mine was.

Agreed. Besides the Doug's Headers, I have a Pypes 2.5 system with chrome splitters in the rear quarters and Violator mufflers. I bought the mufflers specifically because the Pypes webpage said, "For those of you who want to be heard."

Usually not. The Firebird is in primer for paint with the stock black coating on the front fenders. So not much to look at. On the other hand - if we had matching incomplete '67 Firebirds - that would be interesting at a show! I "belong" to the local car club in Norman which means I have access to their website with the listings for the local shows. Most down here south of OKC are rinky-dink, but the annual one at the USPS Training Center off of Hwy 9 gets an OK turnout. But never more than about 30 cars.

The Mustang is bone stock on the outside and even my upgrades (18 inch chrome bullets) are OEM. Although the Zaino treatment every 6 months has given it a mirror shine.

I actually did purchase those exact same 80 watt dual dash speakers from CI way back when and installed them. I have since changed my mind about tunes in the car. So I thought that speaker setup was worth over OEM.

It has been a while since someone mentioned Zaino.

Yes, his huge endorsements caused me to try it and get hooked. But only for the "good" vehicles. Not for say, the wife's car

Recieved my order of Zaino this week and will be treating mine in a few weeks hopefully.

I replaced that dash speaker. made a big difference in the sound..

I hade time to apply the Zaino yesterday.
