Stumbled across this one. Not interested in it, but I was curious if it was even possible to order the 68's in this color as the owner mentions? Or is he blowing smoke you know where?

He says he has the PHS...The color would show up on the billing history under "color". What strikes me as doubting all claims is that after checking as many references to pistachio..no GM color could be found. Now here is where my cop mind takes over. Seller calls it pistachio. Seller would have to get this color name from SOMEWHERE documented to name it such.

If this truly is a "one off" I am sure Jim Mattison or JB would have hand written a few words on the PHS as to the rarity of this car.

Since the car color is purported to be a customer request (not an exec..) the cowl tag would read SPEC and not any other designation. My speculation is that if this is true, the cowl tag would be blank for the color code.

To solve the issue, either the cowl tag or the PHS would show this one off color. GM would not stamp a cowl plate with a Q code as an example (Verdoro Green) and paint it a non GM color without documenting the color change on the billing history within the spaces provided on the bottom left without a hand written addendum at time of billing.

Absent a clear pic of the cowl tag showing something (or nothing) or authentic GM notations and documentation, the sellers claims are without merit.

Could the person who requested the color have been special...had friends and connections at GM to have this pistachio paint done on the down low? Absolutely...but absent docs...I wouldn't bet on its authenticity.

Some exterior paints were special order and not in the dealer ordering...marigold yellow, pink mist, carnival red were some of them. If painted a one off...the cowl tag would show SPEC.

Please follow up with seller and request a pic of cowl tag and billing history.

I suppose anything is possible, however, here's a clue - my 68 trunk hinges are painted the same color as the body, Solar Red. The Pistachio car has black hinges. Maybe removed the trunk lid to paint it and forgot the hinges. At any rate, the color is not very appealing, IMO.

I'd find it funny to buy 50 individual pistachio nut vinyl stick ons and have 2 Jell-O made for the doors.

I am thinking it's not a bad price if it is indeed solid under the paint and as good as it looks mechanically.

That color reminds me of a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's.

I would pay no more than $10K, then spend another $8K doing a frame off to strip that ugly color from every part of that car. That is not an appealing color in any way, or on any car.

I could send you a picture of the cowl tag. I bought this car and I'm curious too. It reads "_ _" then 2 PAINT. The general concensus on the forum seemed to be no one liked it, but it's kind of grown on me. My wife got a new firebird in 1968 when she graduated from high school. We sold it, as a piece of junk in '74 for $200 and have regretted it ever since. The guy I bought the car from did provide some additional documentation on the color, but it doesn't mean much to me. Just thought I would add to the thread even if it is an old one.
