Howdy all!

Trying to find a nice set of headers that will work with the current 1971 Chevy 350 in my Firebird but also fit the Pontiac 400 I am going to install in a couple years. From what I can tell so far, they are both GM small blocks so I would think one header could rule them all.

1967 Firebird
1971 Chevy Corvette 350ci (built to 1970 LT1 specs) - current
1967 Pontiac Firebird 400ci - future engine
Muncie 4-speed

I was thinking I would like to get the Dougs D304 as they seem pretty well regarded here. Initially I was just going to put a cheap set of headers on until I got the 400 rebuilt and installed but even cheap headers are expensive and unless you go for extra on coatings or some such, guessing they will rust. Rather spend the money and get a nice set that will work with either engine.

Well first of all there is no Pontiac small block, 326 CI through 455 CI all have the same outside dimensions. You could use headers (fChevy) for a Camaro the same year as your FB. The Chevy engine & Pontiac engine are of completely different design.

Buy two sets of headers or use standard manifolds now then headers later when you change over to a good Pontiac mtr.

Save your money for Pontiac parts. I like the factory long branch manifolds sold by ramair.

Only problem with that, is that those coated long branch manifolds cost about as much as coated headers.

The Hedman 35270 is what we raced. The coated 35276 is only $517 shipped.

We also ran Hookers on 1 Bird. They make some coated small tubes for $500 shipped. But, I prefer the Hedmans.

Thanks all for the replies! Basically want to get the car running and have some fun and take my time building the 400 and don't want to spend a lot on an exhaust system I will likely replace when I put the Pontiac engine in.

How about something like Chevy Small Block Super Comp Block Hugger Headers to get me by until I can get the Chevy engine out?

Not many here support putting Chevy Engines into Firebirds. You would likely get multiple honest opinions on a Camaro site.

I have the Doug's Headers on my 455 and highly recommend them if you have the coin. They tuck up very nicely under the floor pans and do not extend down below the subframe. This was a must for me because when I bought my car it had a set of crushed cheap 3 tube headers on it.
