I am currently making a run of Sprintbird Sprockets for our beloved cammers, and offering them up for sale. These fully adjustable cam gears are made utilizing original cores, machined billet aluminum hubs, hardened studs, and all necessary locking hardware. The gears come fully balanced and are warranted for fit and workmanship. (I can not be held responsible for damages from misuse) Instructions, shipping and insurance are included in the price. $275 with a good core or $300 without. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you!
Dumb question: I have a spare OHC motor that was a 1 barrel. I am slowly acquiring the parts to turn it into a 4 barrel motor but want to raise the compression a touch. I am looking to shave the head some which will affect timing. I was told that if I use one of your adjustable sprockets I could offset the timing to get a more favorable adjustment where otherwise I would not be able to.
No such thing as a dumb question. I designed these gears to compensate for the lack of valve train/cam timing adjustment in these engines. When one mills the head and/or decks the block, the pistons are closer to the valves at TDC. The cam timing is retarded as compared to the factory timing in this case. The adjustable gear allows one to get the timing to where it needs to be. The other thing to consider, is that the factory designed these engines to run on 1960's gasoline, utilizing factory components. Many guys are rebuilding these engines for more power, using today's gas, aftermarket parts and simply want one additional option when fine tuning these engines. My Firebird Sprint liked 3 degrees retarded cam timing when on the engine dyno. Your results will vary though, as no engine is rebuilt the same. If you have any more questions, please let em know. Good luck with your build.
