So happing a friend and his 69 and the car will not start in park only drive... before I dive in and help wanted to get some feedback... any thoughts ?
69's have the steering column sleeve that rotates and activates the starter safety switch. Sounds like the linkage that works the sleeve is out of adjustment. You might be able th manually turn the sleeve all the way counter clockeise. Or need to adjust the linkage
I have a 69 with some what of the same problem. It's the adjustment on the column linkage, If the floor shifter is not pushed all the way forward I have to turn the sleeve on the column to get the car to start. With the linkage being so old on these cars you start to get wear on it. I could only adjust so much. I have to rebuild the linkage between the column and the transmission, that's on the things to do list.
For a visual clarification of everyone's suspicion, locate the hole that that #1-5 goes through. That section of the column, the hole, needs to be all the way up. From the engine compartment, snatch it, and hold upward pressure on it as you crank. Test, then report back.
