Hi there,
I bought a new tank for my 69 and it does not have the vent tube attached like the old one. I am planning to remove the old tube from the old tank, and affix it to the new tank. Just wondering if anyone has done this and how they did it. Brazed, or welded, soldered???
It's a big pain in the arce, but I am not overly excited to change to a vented cap as I don't know if they vent both ways (vacuum and pressure)?
Has anyone done this?
Thanks.

Would you like a copy of the 69 Service Manual in PDF format?

Gus68, yes I would - I may have one already but the copy is poor.
Bob S. thanks, I did solder my old tube onto the new tank. All went well.

Interesting. Someone had replaced the tank in my '69 (which is the type which has the vent tube going in and out of the trunk) with a repo tank. Except they didn't change the non-vented cap. It didn't fit tight so I replaced it with a vented cap and no more fuel leakage.

Ponton, I found out the new tanks don't have the same depth at the neck to hold the cap so the old caps don't fit correctly (the rollover area inside the neck). What I did was I have some rubber pads that are resistant to fuel about 1/16" thick from my previous employer (molding business). I cut out two rings to fit in the cap, and now viola, the old "not vented" cap works like a charm.
