I'm trying to get my 67 400 Coupe as original as possible but I can't remember which style clamps they used on the hoses. I believe it was tower style on the radiator. Can't remember anything on the heater hoses. I only owned 3 of these cars in the 70's, but never gave a second to the style clamps except to replace them with K-Mart cheapie hose clamps. Also, do you happen to have an idea on who may carry decent quality clamps.
All tower clamps. Most pf the repop companies sell them.
Keep in mind they are hard to get good seals with, thus the reason they changed the design in later years. I had to go through a few of them to get ones that sealed well.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. To add to what 68tpls400 said about tower clamp seal: Be careful tightening them on the thin radiator outlets. They seem to apply pressure unevenly so the outlet can crush in at the screw. I had to borrow a tool from my radiator shop to re-shape mine after I tightened one too much.
One of the things I do before I tighten the new tower clamps on my radiator is tighten them on a large socket to get it "shaped" correctly. Seems to work.
Very true. Found out the hard way trying to seal my filler hose to gas tank with my original tower clamps. I've been living with fuel leaks for 28 years when filling er up. Never thought it was the dang clamps. Finally bought some turbo charger clamps that provide a 360 seal. I filled up my bird on the second notch fuel pump and had zero leaks. Would recommend these clamps to anyone replace their fuel filler hose or had experienced leaks at filling up. I am a happy camper now.
