This was created by a member a long time ago, when he realized what he had done by selling his.. Only 1450 cars were ever made with this carb on top. Not many known to be around still.

A poem

My story begins in late 81
A 68 Firebird and a hunger for fun
It had to be fast, and it had to be mean
My car had the muscle, (though I was quite lean)

It was at this time in my tumultuous youth
I made a poor choice, I confess, quite uncouth
The old parts must go! I said with much folly
and out went the Rochester, replaced by a Holley
I had no idea the damage Id done
Alas, my 7028271

This old carb is worthless, I said so, quite smug
My addiction to horsepower was much like a drug
For years I endured the hard starts and rough idle
For the illusion of hundreds of ponies unbridled
Yet as years passed me by I missed what was gone
Alas, my 7028271

So in much earnest I started to seek
this mechanical marvel I once thought so weak
I searched high and low, here and there- but found none
For nowhere was found my 7028271
I called every dealer, and they said with a laugh
How could you ever have made such a gaffe?
If ever we see one, the price you will scorn!
One thousand! Two thousand!! And then your first-born!

As my hair turned more gray, my search did not stop
I searched every catalog, to each website Id hop
I looked and I looked with a passionate force
FGF! Hemmings! and eBay of course!
Months turned to years, and yet no avail
I began to accept that my quest just might fail
Each night in my bed, restful sleep all but gone
Alas, my 7028271

And then it just happened, most unexpected!
On eBay one day, a listing reflected;
A carburetor, so rare, so fine, and so fair
Like a beautiful princess with long flowing hair
The only thing between us a high reserve bid
I shouted and jumped, like my three year old kid!

But wanting and having are not the same thing
And nothingas as precious as a wedding ring
Before I could commit to this financial strife
I was bound by my love, to consult with my wife

So, my jobs on the line and our stocks in the tank,
the house needs a roof and the foundation has sank
I have no meaningful grounds to request
a storybook ending to my quixotic quest
But ask her I did, in a manner so meek;
is it okay if we dont eat for three weeks?

She looked at me sadly, but with much compassion
Shes always had patience for my ridiculous passion
If it makes you happy, I cannot say no
and deep in my heart, the embers did glow
Then she gave me a look, as if something she knew-
just like that Admitting Nurse at Bellevue

But on to eBay, to do battle I must!
My cause was so noble, my motives were just!
Though my rivals were many, they had not a chance
they were not prepared for this financial dance
I was powered by love, passion, and credit
And after years of search I finally had it!!

And now when I lie down to rest in my bed
I feel a long lost friend just under my head
Under my pillow, slightly dripping with gas
My mechanical marvel of glory days past

But the glory is not over, a new era has begun

Alas, my, 7028271.

..7028271

7028271

7028271

7028271

Craig
I just found this 7028271 and had to buy it. Appears to be in great shape so I picked up an extra to have on hand and maybe I can slip it under my pillow.

I remember my "search"...

Bought a 68 HO...engine code, EUN and everything else correct. Missing carb, manifolds, oil filter adapter and fan. No big deal.

Missing trunk key...

5 years pass and 15 years later...

Found trunk key....8271 carb..manifolds..fan in trunk..

Now I have three 8271 carbs, 5
flex fans and 3 sets of manifolds.

wow, I've been offline for years, and I just decided to check in to see what has been happening here, and I see my ten year old poem reposted!
Cool! But, yes, in retrospect, Haiku may have been a better format.
I still have the carb, and the car, and its still sitting in storage, alas, untouched since I wrote that poem. :-(
Happy new year to all! I wish you all many happy miles in your Firebirds!

and summer passing fast! sighhhhh....
I know they are here somewhere; I took a bunch of pictures of the car and engine when I bought the car in 1981. A lot of items were still stock at the time; the engine and engine bay were nearly 100% stock, and it still had T3 headlights and wide oval Firestones. I promise- when I find where I put those pictures I will scan them and upload them here.
