Generally Ames seems like a pretty good company they have HEI compatible Hood Tachs

they all will work with HEI, if you have one and don't have the wiring diagram, just call them, they get it for you

HEI is nothing more than a glorified hall effect, it would hook up the same as a pertronix kit, unilite, etc etc, same as points I believe, I have a pertronix II and it hooked up the same

If it's a GM HEI, there is a plug in connection on the distributor for the tach. Just get the connector from Ames. I hooked my original stock tach in my 69 goat to an HEI and it actually worked perfectly.

yep that's correct, not sure on original tachs but the new solid state tachs will work wih just about anything
