Took my Lawn tractor in for maintenance today. Could cost up to $1700. I asked what their labor rate is and it's $130/hr.
Mech shops charge $150/hr and up. What do you guys pay in your area?

Some other notable quotes this year:
2 buildings to re-shingle - $50k /ea
Replace skylight $4000
Replace gas stove $3500
Replace garage opener $1800
Pave driveway $55k
Home insurance $8k/yr (no claim history, no floods, no hurricanes, no fire)

uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Holy cow Gus! Those are some crazy costs. Is that US dollars? I’m a contractor in Northern California, if I could get prices like those I could afford the latest tax hike on gas here!
Whenever I use a mechanic he’s about $100 per hour.
Concrete foundation for my shop, 2 stage pour: 24’X32’ $7600
Home insurance: modest home 1800 square ft, 768 square ft shop, 3 out buildings on 3.5 acres, about $1600 per year.
That’s with one claim. (Fire, removed and replaced a tree and vegetation).
Holy cow!

There are a lot of variables ( how big are the buildings to be roofed, how big is the drive-way, what kind of skylight etc.) but things sure seem high. Glad I live where I do.

Um...those costs are ridiculous.

$8,000 per year to insure your home? Do you live in an 8,000 sugared foot house? I pay $2,800...in hurricane country.

Had my roof reshingled in 2006...$12,000
Slab for my garage, 32’ X 24’... about $3,500 in 2004.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess $8k is the FOD price here in Alberta when your insurance want's to terminate your coverage. I got more quotes some lower and some higher. Online quotes did not look that good as the detail was very short on description. Got a decent quote from my car insurer so going with them. It's around $4k but I get $300k on shop, $430k on residence. Plus insurance on boat and motor, contents on buildings, water, sewer, misc gotchas, da wife's cassette tape collection ( lol )

1500 sq. ft. hillside bungalow on 4 acres. The shop is similar in size. It's 1500 sq. ft. upstairs and 1500 sq. ft. on the main floor.

Still a little high but someone gots to pay for the wild fires!
