I've seen multiple threads on different sites and haven't gotten a clear answer on 3.36 gear sets. The previous owner swapped in a 69 ZB axle into my 67 bird. I want to swap out the 2.56 gears for a 3.23 gear set but i can't find a 3.23 gear set only a 3.36 gear set. I see people mention 27 splines and 28 splines too. Can someone just tell me will 3.36 gears fit onto a 8.2 BOP ZB locked differential or not?
The 3.23 or 3.36 set is what I really want if (A) i can find a set of 3.23 gears or (B) the 3.36 gears will work in the ZB housing.
I'd prefer to find an original set of 3.23 gears if anyone in this group has a set. I'd rather not swap out for 3.08 gears. If I was to go with the 3.08 gears I know where I can purchase a gen 2 8.5 10 bolt axle from a camaro that is posi. Trying to out weigh the price on buying, shipping, and having the spring pads moved on the 8.5 vs labor on installing a new set of 3.08 gears in the 8.2.
