If anyone has purchased a tah and installed it in a NOS hood let me know how it went I will have to have the hole drilled there is a pretty good you tube on this

There is a template out there that has the main hole and mounting hole locations on it. Get yourself a hole saw set and a six pack and do it yourself, lol. I replaced my tach a couple of years ago, and if you want original style, I like mine that I got from "the parts place". They use a screwed on assembly not glued and real glass not plexiglass. Works well and looks stock with upgraded internals.

It can be a little intimidating drilling a 4" hole in a freshly painted hood but patience and having the right tools helps. It's really no big deal once you have the correct location. Good luck.

You have to cut down through part of the under structure too with the hole saw. I used a new sharp one and it went through cleanly. I also cut my hood up for the ram air pan.

Same here. Measured about a dozen times and used a new bit. Unnerving but once done it looked great.

The same hood fits all 3 years for the First Gens, so I would assume emblem fit and location would be about the same.

Always check with Ames for dimension sketches. If it’s out there they prob have it. They will email it for free. I didn’t use a template. I had a drawing with all the hole locations dimensioned from the edge of the hood. I believe I got the drawing from Ames.

Its an easy job, with a good drill bit and new metal snippers. Buy the Hood Tach that goes straight to your HEI distro and does not require any mods to the wiring. Mine has worked fine for 17 years now. Two bright bulbs light her up at night.

Hoods for 67-69 were not exactly the same. The 69 hood in particular. I say this from the perspective of drilling and cutting a hood tach. Dimensions pretty close, but structure different.
