Many years ago I purchased my 67 without an engine or transmission. Just to get it running i had installed a 350 with a PG. Over the last few years I've been doing a ground up restomod and I'm installing a 455 with a TH-400. I thought I had the parts I needed but I found out the dipstick tube I have isn't even close to fitting. I tried goggling the casting number on the trans and all I found was a numbers matching Grand Prix for sale that advertised the casting number (8623801).

For anyone that has done a 455 / th-400 swap, what dipstick tube did you use? Frank's Pontiac Webpage has a few transmissions tubes but they are all bent differently. How can I determine which one I need. I don't want to go the route of a flexible trans tube. I want one that looks stock.

Also a few other questions

1. Need shifter conversion from PG to th-400 3 speed
2. Am I still using the original rod set up from the PG or do i have to switch to a cable?
3. What is the kickdown?

Unfortunately, you’re not going to have much of a choice. Finding a TH400 dipstick tube is almost impossible. It’s not the engine that’s the problem, it’s the Firebird.

Also, the kick down switch on the TH400 is electric. You can attempt to find an original kick down switch if you’re using a Quadrajet (good luck and $$$$). I was using a Holley and found the B&M set up to work well.

Check out Shifterworks.com. They might have what you need for your shifter.

I used a Hughes Performance dip stick when I swapped in the 700r4 transmission. I see they make a couple for T-400’s. Might be worth checking out. The one I bought was a high quality piece.

Thanks,

Oh hail yeah!!! Been doing some work on the ‘bird. New master cylinder and booster. Next is a new mini starter. That stock starter keeps leaving me stranded when it heats up.

Wat u up 2?
